Myself and a friend are doing a road trip down to Modena-Monaco-Milau on the back of a Ring trip in early July.

Planning on doing Davos - stelvio area then down to Modena.

We would like to stay around lake Garda area for a couple of nights and across to Monaco and stay there for a night.

Im thinking finding a cheap-ish hotel around the lakes might not be too hard but Monaco will be a different matter. (We have thought about camping on the roundabout infront of the casinobiggrin)

Taking the Exige so I suppose parking at hotels should be considered too.

Any help much appreciated.

You'll have to look at staying outside of Monaco tbh. The Mirabeau hotel closed down in October last year, (So the Barclay Bros could convert it into more luxury apartments) leaving less hotel rooms available this year and all the hotels are now fully booked until the end of this year. (I know as I tried to make bookings for this September, in December 07 and they were already booked then.) You might strike lucky with a cancellation though so no harm trying. If you need a list of all the hotels in Monaco, send me a PM.

As for Lake Garda area, I'll have a look in my hotel resource file and post up anything interesting later today.

Loads of hotels available. Check this site:

I always use it when I travel.

Though don't expect the word 'cheap' to feature much!

Menton is just next to Monaco on the Italian side, may be worth trying there as only a short drive away. Probably the cheapest, not to mention quaintest, place in the area.

For Monaco I can strongly recommend Les Deux Freres. Its run by an English chap IIRC. Lovely rooms, air conditioned and very reasonably priced.
It has fantastic views over Monaco.
