Accommodation close to Silverstone

Evening all,
I have managed to obtain a couple of tickets for the Sunday of the British Grand Prix and wanted to stay over on Sunday night (possibly Saturday night as well). North of Silverstone would be better as we are travelling south to attend.
Can anyone recommend a decent hotel/B&B in close(ish) proximity to Silverstone that might still have some availability (late notice me thinks!).
Also, what is everyone's experience of travelling to and from Silverstone on race day? Does anyone have a suggestion of the best way of getting to and from the track - I think Heli transfers are out of the question though?
