have done the ring 24hrs 3 times now and you can't compare with LM - just very very different. Cost of weekend ticket this year was 48 euros (same price as last year) but have found campng more expensive at around 50 euros per person (but that can be a tent each with unlimited pitch) at mullenbach camping that includes very good and spotless toilets, shower block, shop (bread, fruit etc) and full 24 hours security. Prices for both food and beers are very very much cheaper than LM. This years grid included 280 cars from 997, lambos, astons and down to a lone mini (that still finished).
Have a look at ben lovejoys site for the full picture. We are definitely going down next year so if you want to hook up for a convoy, get a thread started when they release next years dates. I did the run down this year in around 4 hours from Calais so not too tasking either. The roads down there are SUPERB. Cheers!

I’ve been the last two years. First year we camped in one of the temporary camping grounds, no showers like at Mullenbach but incredible atmosphere and views of the track on your doorstep. Food, beer and water being sold in all the sites and decent toilets so we were sorted. In 2008 we stayed in the Burgstube in Nurburg and that was well worth the extra cash. Had everything sorted for us, tickets, minibus round the track, pictures of the racing etc. It was about £250 each for b&b thu-mon plus all the above. 2 minutes to the Pistenklause and 10 minutes to the Nordschleife where the live strip tent was biggrin You can see all the campsites and hotels on this map. http://www.racetours.co.uk/nring%20map.gif

Just a few questions then:

- Is Mullenbach the only campsite that has reasonable facilities ?

(Some of the corner sites would appear to be quite basic!)

- Is getting tickets for Mullenbach similar to Le Mans LM in that you have to buy in advance to ensure you can at least get through the gate ?

- Now I know sleep will be a rare commodity but if we were to stay at somewhere like Mullenbach would I be rocked to sleep by non-stop 80's german techno ? I suppose the question here is what's the atmosphere like in the campsites.

- Is there any indication yet when the race will be ? The Racetours TBC dates would suggest a potential clash with LM which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Thanks in advance
Steve

The facilities are ok around the Nordschleife. There is water on tap (not sure if it's drinking water) plenty of porta loos but no showers. There was a bar on our site at Metzgesfeld and for food we had bbqs. Atmosphere is pretty wild but very friendly. There was a lot of 80s techno and often long into the night smile I have never actually stayed at Mullenbach, I'm not sure if you can pre book. For me it just seems a bit too far from the Nordscheife. I guess if you were willing to drive about a bit it wouldn't be a problem. The hotel was the best of both worlds for us in terms of location and comfort. The dates aren't out yet and won't be until later in the year. Unlike Le Mans it does move about a bit.
