I really wanted to go to this but OH has chosen this weekend for his boys biking holiday to Scotland http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Would have been a good chance to say hello before Singapore as I believe you are going too?!

Hi Lisa,

That's bad planning on your OH's part.
Never mind we'll meet up in Singapore, we're even in the same grandstand. Got our tickets on Monday
so just have to make sure I don't lose them now.BTW I see you're into sailing - do you think there's any chance of getting John to take us out on his yacht, whilst we're there?

It was great is all I can say, it actually wasn't that wet for most of the day!!
The variety and spectacle was immense, real shame to see the Gulf Porsche manage 200 yds and then hit the bales....
Very impressive, I do think they need some more rally related features as indeed apparently does Derek Bell listening to his interview, finally saw one of my childhood heroes, Brian Redman and also virtualy bumped into Pete Waterman which was bizarre!! The oportunity to get up close to the vehicles was refreshing aswell...
Felt the footage being shot onto the big screen was excellent plus great commentary from Neville Hay and I think it was Carlton Kirby? Also notice Motors TV doing a lot of filming, will they be showing it?
Only downside for me on the commentary was the chaps doing the powerboats, as someone who doesn't know alot about powerboating I had no idea what they were on about, their style didn't suit the day I felt...
So big thumbs up for next year, but to get more bums on seats I think the general admission price needs to be a touch lower....

Okay day, it did show it was the first event, not at all busy today and the weather was good. BUT I managed to blag my tickets gratis, if I had paid £60 for me and the wifey I would have been pissed off. There is more to see at the classic car meet and more racing at Oulton and can do both for less.
Really enjoyed it, was fortunate enough to be asked to be "mechanic" <cough> for a modern car that needed no attention bar a bucket and sponge, so was able to have a good walk round over both days.
Even with the showers on Saturday, there was a great atmosphere and plenty to see. I'm sure improvements can be made, but for it's first year, a superb effort.

I expect we'll be there next year.

Don't think it will be the same format again. The traders there were quiet and grumpy. The totally open pits area was a surprise - a welcome one - could get very close to some fab cars (unlike at the Revival) but the nervousness of some of the drivers and crew was apparent and around the start line the mix of people and cars with racing clutches and cold brakes looked a bit dangerous.
Although the boat racing on the lake is nice the event really misses not having a proper race track - instead there is what feels like a tarmac rally stage - but you can get pretty close.
Though commentary was good, and PA could be heard everywhere which was nice. Same sort of banter as the Revival. Loved the comment that went:
"One of our photographers has mislaid a professional long lens and a small bag containing his wallet, he put it down for a few minutes whilst taking some pictures in the public area. We are sure someone must have picked it up by mistake, if that's you can you please pop it in to the organisers office, thank you"
Which is the other problem, just not the same "quality" of general public as at a Goodwood event - maybe location or maybe because prices were much lower and kids were free (seemed to be a LOT of pushchairs).
Don't think I've ever seen so many Bentleys in one place, the helicopters were interesting as well.
So, worth the trip, a good day out, but not sure if I'd go again.

i went today and although i was taking photos for the event i was really impressed as it was after all their first event.
There werent many hick-ups and it was a continuous event with a return road rather than stopping every 20 mins to return the cars down the hill like at Goodwood...(4 runs each today)and NO traffic jams getting in......
The other good thing was to walk to anyone part of the track it was only ten mins as the circuit was in a cirle rather than from one end of the road to another(Goodwood seams to take forever)
The only thing that is needed is cheaper ticket prices(although i think club set ups were cheaper/free????? and a second bridge at the start line rather than a crossing inner/outter field. They were building a wraught iron one but good old health and safty stopped that as it had not been tested???
The event had not only an open paddock, great range of racing cars / road cars but power boat racing and helecopter display, so if one part of the family is bored of the cars they can go do something else whilst the petrolheads stays and watches the cars... Bales of hay werent too high either so you werent far from the cars.
i feel next year the more famous drivers and cars will get attracted to the event although we dont want 'just another Goodwood'.
God luck to them. id rather do something local and support them than drive all the way down to sussex again and sit in a traffic jam for ages.
It was also good to see down to earth event without the bling which seems to spoil Goodwood nowaday.....now where my Pimms

Hi there,
Well what a great day. This event certainly has the potential to rival Goodwood in years to come, its load easier to get to for a lot of people and they seemed to have thought out the location of everything quite well. Only gripe for me was the fact that there was only really one crossing point for the track and it was mobbed as soon as it opened which was only once every 45 minutes or so.
A great mix of machinery, from modern day supercars to classic helicopters.
I think the organisers have done well to team up with Bentley as this certainly added a prestige to the event.
I took loads of pics and will be working through them over the next few days. In the meantime here are some that for me sum up the event.
Classic Race cars

Supercars

Unusual cars

Motorcycles

Helicopters

Powerboats

Regards
Tim

nice break although i missed the helecopter demos.
The event was fantastic and i hope they do it every year. and to think this was their first event. That takes some organising, especially considering it wasnt advertised that well or that long ago.....
