Have you actually driven this route? In particular from Langley to Wildboarclough? The reason I ask is I am fairly certain some of that route is on the "Quiet Lanes" project. Speed limit of 30mph and is heavily used by cyclists, walkers and horse riders. Not a very good environment to hoon through.

The A54 from Congleton, through Bosley crossroads and up to meet the A537 is a good enough run, its only traffic that spoils it at the moment. I think they are running a diversion from Macc as the main Leek road is closed at some point... I was up there this evening and it was horrible, full of dithering idiots doing 28mph...frown

I live on the Congleton side of Macc fwiw, I might be able to meet everyone for this, even if to just to put some names to faces biggrin

I drove it for the 1st time to scout the route out as it were this afternoon. Yes, there where 1 or 2 hikers and 3 or 4 cyclists aswell as a 30mph zone (may have been 2) - so a route change could be for the best!
Not very familiar with that specific area of macc, i just used google maps smile If you can suggest an alternitive that would be ace!

Quiet lanes project? i think i can guess but what is that?

Traffic hasn't wasn't too bad but did get stuck behind some doddering old sole for a bit, so maybe its a run for the night? - just throwing around suggestions!

Would a weekday evening be quieter than a Sunday?

Count me in anyway. My ears might be bleeding after 35 miles in the Mini tho wobble

I'm up for that smile Nice one Chris. A bit of light traffic and walkers/cyclist wont hurt, we're not out to break any records are we? biggrin

May bring along my daughter to navigate, she's not been out for a while.
I was thinking of an evening drive, starting at around 7pm? Meet somewhere in Congleton or en route to start?

Well I would just alter the route to straight fro Wildboarclough to the Cat & Fiddle. Your a bit fked if you want to got through Sutton or Langley. As for what quiet lanes are see http://www.cheshire.gov.uk/roads/QuietLanes/home.h...

Yes, an evening run may be what the doctor ordered, good idea cw42!

After studying the map, i can see that the following roads are in the "Quiet lanes" project:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr=Unknow...

So i have come up with the following alternate. It still uses one of the 'quiet lanes' but about 1/3 the length of the previous route:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr=Meg+Ln...
Between points E and F is a designated quiet lane.

The revised route would be http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr=A54%2F...

what does everyone think about doing the run in the evening then, or during the week? (or both?)

Keep the suggestion coming!

[edit]
as for the meeting point, i was thinking this carpark: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&ge...

Even the evening might be too busy on a bank holiday Sunday.

it'll be busy any time we go, unless its during the week, so maybe a tuesday for example will be more quiet wink

Instead of getting hung up around the singletrack in Macc forest, how about a simple run from the proposed pub meeting point on the A54 to Longnor, then back over to the c&f for a coke?
Forgot it was bank holiday weekend, but hopefully the traffic will be mostly gone by 7pm ish. From experience, there's a road from the Leek road to Longnor that is sublime! smile and a few nice pubs in Longnor too!

Something along these lines: http://tinyurl.com/5fbjy3

Its bank holiday weekend, you know. The absolute world and his DOG are going to be out.

I reckon it would be better the following weekend. Then I could come. biggrin

I won't be able to make the following weekend. What's the problem with it being bh anyway? From experience on runs out, sunday evenings are never that bad.
