Bit bored and was hoping there maybe something on this bank holiday weekend?

If not I may just cruise on down to the city for a late night drive, say midnight Sunday or something...is this a stupid idea? Not driven round london before but I thought it may be pretty cool, any ideas on routes?

The Embankment is quite nice at night. From Tower Bridge along to Cheyne Walk in Chelsea.

Also, maybe drive across some of the bridges spanning the Thames? Nice views when all the lights are on.

I have a pretty regular set of routes around London for night time drives I do most weekend nights.

There was a Ferrari Midnight Run last night I believe. Trouble was I only found out after I got home from my run at midnight. Doh! I would have liked to have tagged along.

Tower bridge at night in a friends SLK 55 AMG with the top down and the airscarf on,looking up (i was passenger !) just Spectacular !! Not only the sights of London but the sounds and the smells too.
Then to top it off down to Westferry Circus (at least i think thats what it's called) which for those that don't know is an underground roundabout so is like being in a tunnel with great sounds but has the advantage that if you are enjoying the noise you just go round again rather than having to come out ! Sounds a bit mad and to be truthful it probably is but then most fun things are ! Until you start feeling dizzy and sick of course.
Hmmm - got me thinking now - maybe i'll pop down there in the RS this weekend. Enjoy.

Tunnels will definitely be part of the route (driving a 350z with a HKS filter)

I've been told this route to follow:

Come off the M1 and clockwise on the M25 cross the bridge and go down the A2 towards London, then up through the Blackwall tunnel, then right through Canary Wharf through the Lime house link tunnel then follow the road that runs along the river passing Wapping and Tower Bridge. Then follow the river road past the Tower of London all the way down the embankment and up to Big Ben, go right then straight over parliament sq. turn right through Horse Guards Parade and right again to Trafalgar Sq then stay left and do a right after Haymarket. Then up through Piccadilly circus and continue on regents street, at oxford St go straight on and up to the A40 then left past the Planetarium and Marylebone. Continue on the A40 all the way to the M25 and then M1 back to Bedford.

Any comments?

Sounds a fun route.
Watch out for the speed cameras in Limehouse link!!!!!
Taking the A40 out to the M25 is a very long way round to get to the M1, probably adding at least 40 miles to your route

Have fun, let us know how you get on
Past the planetarium head north along teh Edgware Road, and then follow the signs for the M1 smile

A roundabout... in a tunnel? A petrol head spy amongst the TFL tossers? In my dream island, there will be a roundabout inside an aircraft hangar. biggrin

Instead of going straight up Haymarket, turn right at the end of Pall Mall and turn up St James Place. Got to the end (Piccadilly) and turn LEFT...

This will take you down the Hyde Park Underpass...

Then, when you get to Knightsbridge Tube Station, go right and right again at those lights and basically you can (legally) turn around and go back on yourself back through the Hyde Park underpass in the other direction and the road will take you right back to Piccadilly Circus, where you can pick up your route again smile

Also - I don't know what time they re-open the roads around Buckingham Palace - The queen gets to have the the road closed outside her house on a sunday! :-|

If you do the route in the reverse order, you get to go through the Dartford Tunnel at the end, rather than start by going over the bridge thumbup
