Algiers or Lison?

Never been to Algiers or Lisbon and they seem to be offering a good deal on BA with miles for late October. Any views on either of these? I hear lots of stuff about Algiers not being safe, but we're not dumb tourists. We're very 'white' though, and while my other half can be mistaken for various arab origins, I most certainly can't.

Another option is Thessaloniki in Greece - anyone been there? Looks a bit boring to me...
