Hi i'm looking for some help in planning a trip up the west coast of Scotland with my girlfriend in October. We will be leaving from Edinburgh on a Friday morning and returning to Edinburgh on the Monday afternoon so where should I go?

I'm thinking Friday up to Fort William area but no idea after that as i'v never been up there... What are the must see and must drive areas to go to as i'll be in a GT3? I would like to go to Skye i think for a night and any accomodation recomendations would be very welcome too, the nicer the better! Its more about the scenery than the roads this time.

Thanks in advance

Henry

Its no contest Henry in a car like that, ignore Fort William just use it as a place to pass thro. But before you get there the spectacular run from Tyndrum to Ballachulish on the A82 down thro Glen Coe is well worth the drive on its own for scenery.
Stay on the A82 from Fort William upto Invergarry then take the A87 Kyle of Lachalsh & Skye road( there is a superb pub/eatery just as you make the turn here - but can't for the life of me remember the name-but worth the stop ), but do not forget to stop for photo opportunity at Eilean Donan Castle ( the most romantic in Scotland !! ), its been seen in films like Highlander, James Bond and Braveheart among others. Then onto Skye, if money is no object then has to be the Cuillin Hills Hotel or stay in Portree, be warned tho' not down by the harbour as its very difficult to park let alone get down to !! Or alternatively try the beautiful village of Plockton at the edge of Loch Carron just off Skye.
You really should drive the Wester Ross Coastal route, this takes in some of the most amazing scenery we have ever seen anywhere, try the Carron Restaurant Strathcarron for morning coffee or lunchtime, all the food is either homemade or fresh prepared & the shortbread is to die for !!! But the most spectacular drive from here just has to be Bealach-Na-Ba ( Pass of the Cattle) over to the Applecross peninsular - now that really is something else believe me. After that if you have any time left before turning round and heading south east again we would suggest a visit to the Summer Isles hotel at Achiltibuie with the most amazing views across to the summer isles and beyond.
We did this & more in a TVR convoy of 4 earlier this year in 8 days leisurely! so best of luck. Dave.
