Lord March has announced the provisional dates for both the Festival of Speed and the Goodwood Revival. The 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed will provisionally take place over the weekend of 3, 4 and 5 July, subject to final confirmation very shortly.

This will be the 17th running of the vent and the ’09 theme will be announced in the coming weeks. For 2009 the unique Goodwood Revival will provisionally be held over the weekend of 18, 19, and 20 September.

The organisers have promised a series of further enhancements for both events in 2009, including a more flexible approach to grandstand seating with more roaming viewing available, plus improvements to the on-site camping facilities. As in previous years, admission to both Goodwood motor sport events will be strictly by advance ticket only, with 2009 ticket sales commencing from 1st November 2008.

Festival is a good event, Revival blows it into the weeds though, Festival seems more of a family what's it all about day, where as Revival is far more targeted. plus you get proper racing on a dangerous circuit with cars that make you ache with longing.

There must be camping near by as Goodwood is in the middle of the West Sussex country side however I don't think you will be able to get away with pitching a tent on site. You could probably sleep in a motor home / Dub bus in the car park by the (horse) race course.

Revival is the better event IMHO. almost a shame it is now so popular though, I remember going when it just started and it was great, now you really need grand stand tickets (luckily I was given some last year which was excellent, but buying them would have been quite expensive)

There was some camping not too far away from the Circuit for the Revival this year. I copied this from the Goodwood web site:-

"...After an energetic day of high-octane motoring action, Festival of Speed and Revival event goers will be able to enjoy the convenience and camaraderie of a new, purpose-built camping facility, located within the grounds of Goodwood Estate. This new facility has been designed specifically to give fast, easy and direct access to either event for the avid motor sport enthusiast.

The new Goodwood camping facility will have over 350 camping plots, able to accommodate camping cars, caravans or tents. On-site will be luxury showering and toilet facilities, as well as power hook-ups, a dedicated campsite manager and 24-hour security patrols. Facilities for persons with disabilities will also be available, including a courtesy shuttle service to and from the events. Full information, pricing and bookings can be made by telephoning the Goodwood Camping Hotline on +44 (0)1243 755055...."

I don't know what it was like because I was down in Wick's Farm campsite not far from West Itchenor, but looking at from the road, it looked huge and well set out. Might try it some day.

When I enquired about camping last year it was something like £120 as you had to pay for all 4 nights.

Damn... That's not exactly cheap.
Add that to the entrance fee and the journey and I'm broke! frown

They're not finished yet, there's one in a couple of weeks.

The pub nearby called the Anglesey Arms did camping for £10. No showers and toilets were the pub ones.

Best event of year. Done Revival for the last few years but I do agree that Grandstand is almost essential. Speed was something else all together. Some of the machines on display, including 3 Veyrons in a row, was superb. My wife got fed up of me watching Top Gear for the next 4 weeks spotting cars which we had seen on the day.

Hate to say this, and I am sure it will prompt abuse, but I think that Goodwood has become a rip off. I KNOW it costs a lot to put on, and I KNOW that I will go, but I think Lord March had become a tad Greedy....
