Sporting Bears Dream Rides - what's it all about
The Sporting Bears organise 10-mile passenger rides for charity at a few selected events such as the Classic Motor Show.
All the money received in donations for Sporting Bears Dream Rides goes to the nominated charities not a single penny raised is taken out by either the Sporting Bears or the Classic Motor Show.
The NEC Classic Motor Show (14-16 November) is the best fund raising event for us to raise money for the children’s charities we support.
At last year’s we raised £30,000 with 1,007 rides from a record 129 cars ranging from supercars right through sports and classics to vintage tourers with the likes of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maseratis, Aston Martins, Porsches, TVRs, Vipers, GT40s, Cobras, Jags, MGs, Japs, sports saloons, 1936 Lagonda and many more.

(n.b. MPH Show is next door and a ticket to that also gets you into the NEC Classic Motor Show)
We also need passengers! - in exchange for a donation to charity you can take a ten-mile ride as a passenger in one of the cars available, picking up and dropping off inside the show but going out on the Queen’s highway.
This why we do it - the many charities we have supported

Sounds like good fun so wouldn't mind coming down in the GTO, just not sure if people are gonna want to get in it if it's parked up next to ferrari's and lambo's.
It all depends on the price it is offered at. I went in the Monaro (just a humble old vauxhall after all) but was busy all day. The good thing about 4 seater's is the riders can split the costs, so a £30 per ride is £10pp where as a F360 is a straight £60pp.On the other hand there were some cars (635, Jag and a few others) who didn't get a ride all day.

it's always worth turning up as its a friendly atmosphere with a good bunch of guys.
you can always look around the show if you have any downtime (i dont think either Rich or i had any last year!)
Thanks Ray and Harsh for your comments hope to see you both there
K they're right it's also about varity and each day is different as to which cars are popular, if you're interested read the bumpf, fill in the form and come along with a 6" X 4" photo I'm sure you'll find it worth while and fun

Bugger - I'm busy that weekend else I'd certainly be there. The Chim has now gone and been replaced with a T350 which would hopefully have attracted a few more than the measly 1 ride I managed for you at Kimbolton.
What other shows have you coming up over the next few months Nige?
Shame you can't make it Tony as I've said above the number of rides you can get vary from day to day and the NEC is a lot more car focused than Kimbolton so don't feel bad about that at all infact you should feel very good about it you brought your car and at the very least it was there so that people could see what the Sporting Bears Dream Rides are about and James enjoyed his ride in your Chim which raised money for charity - thank you bothWhat other shows have you coming up over the next few months Nige?
NEC is the last event of the year and I only know about the possiblity of SuperCar Sunday and Kimbolton so far for next year see this page Sporting Bears Dream Rides - what's it all about next spring for more details

Well done Trevor and Phil, see you there
I hope you've filled in your forms and posted them to Mick
Esso? I only go near BP on my route
Email already sent off to Mick, he's replied saying instructions are to be sent out soon. Wasn't it Esso who last year matched any money spent on fuel at their petrol stations? I remember filling up on Sunday which got aother £60 for the coffers.
I hope you've filled in your forms and posted them to Mick

You two need to worry your memories are worst than mine

It was BP that's why we had to move out of the original Hall we were asigned because Shell were sponsoring MPH in the same Hall
We weren't able to accept "free" petrol for the drivers because of personal tax and car insurance inplications so BP's promotion agency at the event promised to match our BP petrol receipts up to £1,000 (around £2,500 of BP receipts were handed in)
Last I heard BP or their promotion agent for the event STILL HAVE NOT made that promised £1,000 donation (all for the children's hospice charities)
Mick's not as confrontational as me, I suggest writing to BP direct and asking for £10,000 after waiting 9 months, after all a board meeting lunch probably costs more
Rant over . . .
One NEC SBDR I done around 400 miles in the SEiGHT, I was getting lost for the first day and a half and giving extended runs to all those that were thinking of buying or building a Westie - I had a fantastic time

One time I filled up with petrol, luckily only need 4 gal, (no baffles/7 gal tank/roundabouts) to find I'd left my wallet back in the show and I had to ask my passenger to loan me the money - not only did my passenger not mind me having to stop for petrol he wanted to futher donate the petrol money as he was having such a good time
When we got back I gave him the petrol money back and told him he didn't need to make a futher donation but there were collection tins if he wanted to add to any - DRIVERS DO NOT RECEIVE OR HANDLE ANY DONATIONS
- we have "money-grabbers" for that
