Italian Dolomites - Recommendations Required
Discussion
Hi All
Doing a trip next September to the Italian Dolomites and looking whether anyone has any good recommnedations for places, hotels in the area. Staying somewhere near Bolzano, Trento or Cortina d'Ampezzo and rattling around the passes (Stevio, Grossglockner etc) and seeing the sights of Lake Garda, Verona blah blah blah.
Anyone recommend anywhere with a bit of life? Not after the 5 star castle / golf / Pringle sweater sort of scene more likely towns and cities with good nightlife
near some great roads
Thanks!
Jon

Hi, I work in Belluno, about 1/2 the time, off there Monday. That's right at the Venito end of the Dolomitri, and if you are close to that area, don't miss the Passo san Baldo. It's not the highest pass, certainly not one with fast sweeping bends, it's the tightest twisty with the hairpins built into tunnels. But if you are thinking of heading into Prosecco country, then try this one. There is a lovely hotel at the southern end too, Castel Brando; if you have ever seen the film WHERE EAGLES DARE then it's a bit like that, but it does have a road up too! Belluno itself is worth a stop, I know all the hotels and good places to eat around there, too much info to put into here, send me a mail and when I have a bit more time I can tell you more. John
