Route to the ring
Discussion
http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/brownie/Nurburgring20... has the usual route I use at the start of the route.
You'll need Autoroute installed or to convert it to a file format of choice.

Oh, and other suggested routes can be found on Ben's site at http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/
This is our usual route Stunning roads from Malmedy to the 'ring.
Rather than starting a new thread...
Our usual LM crew have decided that the ring24'09 could be more entertaining than more of the same at LM this year. So, technically we will be Ring virgins. A few questions to those in the know...
1. Geting there is apparently a bit more of a hoon? ...less bib?
2. Good places to stay?
3. Tickets? costs?
4. There seems to be little on PH about Ring24..
5. Where's the best spot to view the race from?
6. How does it compare to the LM24? The race, The social etc?
Comments, suggetions, tips & tricks welcome.

Depending on your route, the roads from Malmedy to the ring and simply stunning and easily compensate for the ring not being open to the public during the weekend. We've never had a problem with plod on route, but there are plenty close to the circuit.
2. Good places to stay?
The Tiergarten is about the best hotel, but its practically by invitation only I think. However there are lots of places, especially if you don't mind camping, we camped at Mullenbach last year which is a 15minute walk to the pit area; 20minute walk to Nurburg village for the bars/restaurants and had superb facilities and a little shop. There is a free bus to the circuit if you don't want to walk but we didnt bother.
3. Tickets? costs?
52 Euros for weekend tickets last year.
5. Where's the best spot to view the race from?
All over, be prepared to walk; there are some stunning viewing points, especially at night.
6. How does it compare to the LM24? The race, The social etc?
Socially its very different. If the brits think they know how to drink at Le Mans then the Germans put them to shame at the Ring24hr. It seems to be practically a pilgrimage for many Germans, they arrive early in the week and leave midday on the Sunday, possibly because they've had enough drinking by then!
The ring is a much nicer track to watch than Le Mans, the elevation changes mean you can often see the cars for longer, and its generally more interesting imho.

Make sure you try the Argentinian Fillet at the Pistenklause (restaurant linked to the Tiergarten); superb steak!

On the basis that Hugh and I tend to go down together, I have to concur! I will underline the fact that the route from Malmedy (once out of the town) is superb and they just get better the closer you get to the Ring. Not to be missed. We'll be down there for a short trip this years' race (done the last 4) so making the other planned trips more acceptable for the other half. Friday early down and Sunday back (late). happy to hook up once we are down there if you want a hand finding your way around and have a beer or two.
