Booking direct Vs. Travel agent
Discussion
We are currently planning an American road trip, having decided to go for a Mustang sized convertible and driving between hotels rather than hiring an RV.
We have found a travel agent who specialises in this kind of thing and it ABTA and ATOL protected. He has quoted us about £4k for the whole trip.
However, I've priced things up online and found I can get the same trip in the same hotels for £600 less and because I'd book direct with Virgin I can use my Flying Club miles to get a free Premium Economy upgrade. I can also use my Intercontinental hotel points to get one free night in LA at the end of the trip.
So it seems like a bit of a no-brainer....... Save £600, fly in Premium Economy and get a free hotel night.
What is the snag? I'd book the whole thing on a credit card so hopefully have some protection in the event of Virgin or a hotel going bust.
