FREE Film Night – Friday 12th June 2009
Discussion
It's that time of the year again where the Vue Cinema in Leeds is putting together plans for its annual film meet. The previous 6 events have seen such films picked as Speedracer; The Fast And The Furious; Cars; Oceans 13; Mission Impossible 3 and Swordfish and we have been blessed with kind weather every time!
Following feedback from the 2008 thread, we are not releasing the name of the film this year until on the night itself on the basis that over 30 owners confirmed their attendance in advance but never turned up on the night, proving extremely unfair on the many people who couldn’t be allocated a parking space but wanted to attend.
Despite Speedracer being one of the poorer film releases of last summer, 99% of a poll started by Gemini suggested that the event should continue and 70% of those said that any film is worthwhile playing. What we can say is that the proposed date for this year’s event is Friday 12th June and whilst we can’t (and won’t) divulge the title of the film at the moment, it is expected to be given a minimum 15 certificate and is expected to be one of the bigger summer releases.
As with previous year’s events, it is the intention to start the film between 7.30pm-8.00pm to allow people time to arrive on site and to take their seats. The Vue Cinema will be allocating Screen 1, which has a seating capacity of 343 seats. In order to plan and control car and ticket numbers, the cinema, like last year, will collate car owners details and organise an e-ticket invite which will be posted to owner’s email addresses a week or two before the screening.
This will mean a cut off date being decided for applications/confirmations (this to be confirmed nearer the time) at some point in the last week of May 09.
We aim for 160 cars attending – Sports / Super cars will be given priority.
N.B. Anyone who confirmed their attendance to last year’s event and subsequently failed to show without informing the cinema or organisers beforehand, OR those who specified they would be bringing a certain type of sports car in advance of the event and then arrived in family saloon cars on the night, will automatically be put to the bottom of the reserve list for this year’s event.
So for now, NOTHING needs to be done other than getting the word out that the event is being staged again. When the film is confirmed, I will post an email address for owners to contact me in terms of the ticket application process.

As one who HAS turned up (and in TVR) to a few of these nights, then first-off I am chuffed to hear we are looking forward to another! I 100% agree that lots of work goes into arranging these nights, INCLUDING FANTASTIC WEATHER ... and how it's messed-up by those who don't turn up (hence denying those who would love to be there), or who arrive in the daily driver and park with the rest, after hours of fixing parking spaces in "family groups"... So thanks to the Cinema Manager for sticking with us, and here's hoping that people do appreciate this and behave in the right way.
You have picked the one weekend of the year where a MASSIVE amount of Yorkshire Pistonheaders and petrolheads in general go to France.
A little event known as the Le Mans 24 HRS!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the Vue events ever since the first one back in, oooh 2003/2004 ... you know, when Gemini had white hair
and will be sorry to miss it.
No chance of persuading Paramount or Universal to pull the release a week early is there?

Well pointed out! Still, at least when we're in Le Mans drinking ice cold ale watching the drivers parade we can think of folk in Leeds sat in the cinema. Or maybe not???A little event known as the Le Mans 24 HRS!
Hi Paul
I have attended a few of these nights and they have all been memorable for many reasons. Speedracer wasn't a great movie but that hardly mattered as (I'm sorry to have to report
) the movie was almost incidental to the event itself for most of us. I for one am very grateful to you and to Rich for arranging these and am only sorry that I will not be at this one as I will be living elsewhere by then.
People not showing after they had asked for and been allocated tickets is pretty unforgivable. As far as people turning up in family cars instead of the sports car they said they would be in I agree totally with you. Last time we had great lines of cars in marque / model order only for a people carrier or eurobox to be stuck in the middle, ruining the effect. IMO those people should not have been permitted to park in the designated car parks at all.
I hope that you continue to have these events as they are great fun for all concerned. Thanks again for the previous ones.

Wondering if it is possible to switch the date to the following week - ie. 19th June... it will mean though that the film will possibly not be the one originally planned and may even be one on general release but let's see what the feedback is on the alternative date of 19th?
Why not do a straw poll, I am away that weekend on a TVR event so let's see what effect Le Mans has on the date.
Apparently about 2000 TVRs from UK go to Le Mans every year. Heard it on a programme once ... absolutely no relevance but thought is was impressive at the time
To be honest, I don't think most of us are bothered in the least if it is "premier night" or not. We go for the cars and if it is a good film that is a bonus

I have gone to this for the last couple of years in my smart Roadster* (with a few of us in Roadys too) and have loved it. I'll def be there again trying to keep up with that Ferrari 348. Ha ha!
- i'll let you guys debate if it can be classed as a sports car or not! Though if you are in any doubt please find me on the day and let me take you up Dewsbury Road and you will see how late I can brake and pass many faster cars going through the roundabouts. lol ive converted many petrol heads on this little run.

Still want to gauge interest though and possible uptake first before we can commit to running the event again.
Have you posted the thread in the Yorkshire section Paul?It will get a lot more attention there than here. Yorks is the first section I, and most Yorkshire members click on every time, I only occasionally check here though

(ask the Mods to sticky it at the top of the page too).
Been waiting to hear about this for ages, usually appears on the Yorkshire forum, so would be good idea to post there too.
I had plans to go to LeMans this year too in the Ferrari, so wouldn't be able to make the original date. What happened to leaving it mid May time. I thought it was ideal.

Paul - I don't know anyone who has been who wouldn't go againStill want to gauge interest though and possible uptake first before we can commit to running the event again.
(unless it was known to be a really crappy film)
PHers are just glad to meet up and look at some great cars
Also agree better posting on the Yorkshire Forum as well
