Hi Pistonheaders,

New to the site and just bought a new car and am looking for a road rally.

I'm guessing that many of you have been on these before - Gumball etc. so just wanted some advice.

Not too fussed on price but can't afford the Gumball as I think its about £50k or something (way out of my price range!!) Anything up to about ten grand would be ok.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Sam,
Thanks for your comment, but without wanting to rock the boat or upset anyone, I was advised by a friend of a friend to avoid that one? Obviously don't the bloke, but he said "he was left wanting" bad organisation or something along those lines. He may have had a bad experience which was not what others experienced on their rally but it obviously put me off.
A friend of ours did one of the Cannonball's (not the one you mentioned I'm sure) and said that one year was great the next was bad! It is hard really to know which one to go for. There are many out there when I google away, just choosing one is difficult.
I looked at Carbon Black but that seems very expensive. The Cannonball Run Europe seems the only one that is at a price relevant to me but I have noticed after a day of "googling" that there are three or four new ones? Have you got any ideas on those or now anyone who does?

Thanks for your help Sam

Thats about three times as much as we can afford, but thanks for the heads up anyway!!!

Something around five grand a man would be good?

Oops, seems your friend was talking about the Cannonball8000, an easy mistake to make, they are now no more!

The Cannonball run Europe however is going to be amazing this year, give Jan a ring, she will answer all your questions & check out the video from last year here:

There are indeed lots of runs, tours and rallies out there.

They all have their own 'personalities' so it's a question of what you're looking for.
There's a bit of a distinction between rallys and tours and thats quite a key choice.

I have my own preferences but it would be wrong of my to extol the virtues of that whilst putting down another as it really is personal choice.

Your price range will get you on most of them, some will be close to that whilst others can be a lot cheaper. In general euro trips are more expensive this year than last simply because of the 25% change in the exchange rate

At the end of the day, driving the best roads just costs fuel as most people on here will know the best places to go (and are more than happy to help plan a route if you want to go on your own..including me)

So what you pay for is the organisation, marketing (for some), liability insurance, the type and standard of accomodation offered and the 'extras' such as parties filming, factory tours, museum visits etc.

We run one sort of tour which may fit your bill, but on the other hand it may not.
I'm happy to help you work out what you want, whether you come with us or not.

You can send me a mail with the link in my profile if you wish.

Thanks very much for all your replies you have been most helpful.

As you quite rightly say, everyone is different, so the choice is a personal one.

Have you got a list of these rallies, new and old so I can look at them and see which one is for me?

Thanks once again, I see this is a minefield of a subject!!
