On the last Sunday of May, a group of friends from Milton Keynes is organising a karting challenge for fans of all things petrol-powered and raising money for charity - and Pistonheads.com members have been invited!
Taking place at the fast International Circuit at Daytona Milton Keynes, 'One Race in May' is a 4-hour endurance event that will see up to 35 teams race Honda-powered Pro Karts capable of over 70mph against journalists from top UK media and a few surprise celebrity contestants.
After the trophy presentation and champagne celebrations, a selection of exclusive prizes such as rare signed F1 memorabilia, golf days and much more will be auctioned during an evening function with all proceeds also going to charity.
The event and auction will raise funds for some of UK’s most needing charities - Willen Hospice, providing vital service to people with life-limiting conditions; leukaemia charity the Anthony Nolan Trust and London-based cancer support group Somerset Gardens Volunteers.
The event is a brainchild of a group of enthusiastic friends from Milton Keynes and London, led by Ian Estick, a local small business owner, also taking part in the London Marathon on the 26th of April for charity.
Ian said: ‘We’ve been talking for a long time about finding a way to contribute to those charities which have helped us and our families so much over the years. The dedication of their staff to helping people in ill health and tragic circumstances is incredible, even more so given the very limited funding they are receiving. The present credit crunch means there is a shortfall in donations and we are determined to help them in any way we can.”
Jim Graham, the Sales Director of Daytona, commented: “We host plenty of races here at Daytona throughout the year but this event is promising to be very special. We hope the funds raised will make a real difference to these charities and those taking part have a blast in our karts.”
Ian added: “We will have a live band, great BBQ food and some entertainment for the kids too. We would love for any Pistonheads members to join us - if you are looking for ways to contribute to charity in a fun way and with great company then get in touch! There's plenty of car parking space and if you're driving down in something really cool we will ensure it's parked in a priority position for everybody to admire."
'One Race in May' will take place on May 31st and is organised by Ian Estick, Michelle Tomlin and Marcin Piechowski. Team entries are available at £950 per team. Each team can have no more than 7 drivers. Individuals can also enter at £200 per person (sharing a kart with 4 others). Company sponsorship options are also available including kart and trackside branding.
