Will lowered susspension make a difference this time?
Discussion
Last V max my car consistently hit 155 and I was pretty happy with that. It was a very hot day and this seemed to lower some of the big hitters top speeds.
The car this time is exactly the same Engine wise but since last time I have fitted Bilsten and H&R springs. Aprox lowered 3cm.
Will just the fact that its lower help top end speed? less drag may be is what I am thinking

Well, it'll be interesting to see. After spending many a windy hour in Mira's full scale wind tunnel I can tell you the outcome may not be obvious.
Less frontal area? Actually the only change is the amount of tyre in the area flow. The body frontal area is obviously the same.
Less air under the car? Maybe, or the same air moving faster. Better downforce almost certainly but could be more drag. If the car generates more frontal downforce the angle of attack can change as I'm sure you can picture.
There's so many variables it's all just guess work. You're doing the best thing. Testing it!

Ahhh I didn't think it would be so simple.
I think the biggest problem this time will be me. I have hardly driven it since last time, also since then I have bought and drive daily the slowest car I have ever owned. Took the 911 the other day to get 4 new tyres on it and scared myself on that journey.

Thats the beauty of Vmax, plenty of room and runs to get used to the car.I think the biggest problem this time will be me. (I think I`m going to be in a similar situation as well)

Yes I am sure you are correct Gazboy.
Maybe more so for turbo cars? It was exceptionally hot last time as mentioned
Really looking forward to this one hopefully the weather is rain free and coolish. interested to see the dfference. will have to take it easy though for a while. New susspension, new tyres(cheaper) done approx 100m on it all slow.
now not used to speed at all, brain will need re callibrating.
With my extremely limited knowage I think if its cooler that makes the air more dense therefore more horsepower. Sure I have read that somewhere probably talking out my arse as usual though.

Quite right, unfortunately it also makes the air harder to push aside because its denser, so I`m not sure there is any advantage. Especially at the higher speeds. Maybe more so for turbo cars? It was exceptionally hot last time as mentioned

Speeds do vary between events, sometimes dramatically. The biggest influence is wind-speed, then secondary are temperature and also where the timing beams are placed.
On any given you'll find that once into a groove, every run is within 1-2mph. You can can come back at the next event in an unchanged car and run the same or 5mph faster or slower, for the reasons above.
