Sunday Service

PHers enjoy a GT-Rrrreat day out in the sunshine!

Over 150 cars rocked up to Rickmansworth and Nissan UK’s HQ yesterday for a fantastic Sunday Service that many reckoned to be one of the best.

GT-R in red. Mmmm.....
GT-R in red. Mmmm.....
Aside from the plethora of PHers’ cars, Nissan wheeled-out a mouth-watering collection of its own sporting greats, including a pair of brand new GT-Rs, the new 370Z and a pretty blast from the past in the shape of a primrose yellow 240Z.

This was the first Sunday Service to be held at the invitation of a car company, and we wondered in advance whether a horde of shiny-suited sales staff would be unleashed on unsuspecting PHers.

In the event, Nissan very sportingly let the cars do all the talking – with the result that at least one of our members fell for the charms of the drop-dead red GT-R on the forecourt. By all accounts he’s hot-footing it to Nissan’s West London Performance Centre this week to sign on the dotted. (Jealous? A little, but at least we’re getting the keys to our very own GT-R loaner for a few days next month. We’ll tell you all about it, of course!)

Even more sportingly, Nissan threw open the doors to its staff restaurant and plied visitors with heavily subsidised bacon butties and cappuccinos.

Such a good time was had that we’re already talking to our new friends about a repeat performance later this summer. There’s room for a lot more cars (yesterday’s event was limited to 195 vehicles as a bit of a test run, but not all of those turned up), and there’s even the sniff of a lunch time barbecue. Lets us know what you think, and we’ll keep you posted with future developments.

Meanwhile, we've got our work cut out here at PH thinking how we're going to out-do our own contribution to festivities. A little while before yesterday's Service we took a flyer and asked Rolls-Royce if they'd lend us the keys to the awesome Phantom Coupe that's destined for service as safety car on the Hill Course at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July. We almost fell over when they said yes, but the gorgeous Coupe - complete with safety car strobe lights - was a major attraction all morning. Look out for a full report on this fabulous car here on PH soon.

My first time at a Pistonheads meet. Very impressed with the organisation, cars on show, pleasant atmoshpere and general friendliness of all present. Was an added bonus seeing engines sporting our products! Will definitely be attending future events.

As mentioned in the other thread great event and thanks to all involved, really look forward to another. BBQ sounds like a superb idea and an open gate to make use of the space available would be well worthwhile.

The white ZM4 came past me on the little stretch of duel carriageway just off the M25 whilst I was checking the map, it sounded awesome going past so I dropped a cog to catch up and followed it into the event. (Funnily enough I also went to Box Hill but not till late afternoon)

At the back of the row in the Z4 pic- Is that a 350Z S-Tune? If so, do want. I live just down the road from Rickmansworth (well, ish) and I predict I'll be quite bored this summer... A winning combination?

1) A little publicity please? I live in Watford, I was bored all day and I saw nada mentions of this on PH.. Should I be obsessively checking the foums, or is this a special invite affair? You do kinda have a front page you know.

2) Love that Z4 - what's different about it (other than the blacked out bits)? Hamann kit or similar, or just white/black starkly showing up the lines it already has?

I'm pretty sure this was on the front page. If not I remember seeing it in the relevant forum section so no secret handshakes or invitations.

Home page stories get anything from 15,000 to 60,000 reads (each one, and we do 5 or so a day)

Forums get around 365,000 posts per month.

Page impressions for the whole site is 190 million

I'm not sure what point you are making, but we promote an event on the home page and then in the relevant forum after that. It's how we have done it for years and seems to work for most.

That it belonged on the front page for most of last week, or at least the Friday?

I loved the entrance of the green Cerbera, locking up a back wheel when turning into the entrance. I will be uploading some short videos of some of the cars arriving later. Favourite had to be the blue viper though smile

Sorry, but we never keep the home page static for that long, but the Events, meetings and travel forum is your friend here.
