Hi

For those who have driven it, which way is the best for the Stevio?

Is it better to stay south (eg staying in Bormio) and then travelling north and driving the Pass (West to East?) or staying north and doing it the other way around thereby driving up the 48 hairpins (East to West?)?

I think I have my West-Easts etc the right way around redface

If you go that far, it's rude not to do it several times!!!

Just remember the police station halfway up, if you are noisy going past they will come out and get you!!!

Book one of the hotels at the top and give yourself enough time for a gentle run to get the proper idea up and down before attacking it, just stay safe, forgetting the drops the walls are not forgiving either

Now you tell me!!!! Or make sure you go through fast and noisy and then they get the third one.... and in the confusion you take the wrong road and end up in Switzerland. ;-)) ....thanks SlvrCrb and SpeedYellow

On my tour of the Alps in July I enjoyed the Route Napoleon most of all.... miles and miles of twisty road through amazing scenery.

Yeah don't listen to the nay sayers on the web the Stelvio is a brilliant experience. Granted its not a "drivers road" and you will be stuck behind a camper van for some of the trip but its 110% worth doing!

We Stayed in a lovley little hotel in Bormio The Hotel Eira some pics on this page of my trip write up (If you like slim Italian brunettes you'll love this place)

Heres a link for it on tripadvisor

Yeah no probs leaving the car there at all out of the ski season it's quite a sleepy place. That hotel has a pizza restaurant on the ground floor so we went there. It's about a 10 minute walk to the centre but don't expect much in the way of bussle in the summer. Most of the bars loomed like they only open in the ski season.
