Just two of us signed up so far, but room for more.

I will be looking for some passenger rides myself.

Don't forget the idiots/motoring heroes/3 stooges from Top Gear run the MPH event at the classic car show now.

Anyone ever been to the Classic car show at NEC and want to participate? This year November 13-15 2009 .

Join the "Sporting Bears" and you will be part of the show, giving Dream Rides. Do part of any one day or all three. All you get for doing it is free entrance, and loads of smiles of course! If you are still a big kid yourself, why not go on a dream ride yourself! I wanted to a go in the Aston Vantage, but spent all day driving instead.
Needed - more Maseratis - think I was the only one last year. Come on bring a spyder, 4200, Granturismo, QP and show the world what they are missing. Other Italian sports cars also welcomed enthusiatically. biggrin

DREAM RIDES
Don't just dream about it - do it!

There is no other major exhibition in the UK that offers this incredible opportunity - for every visitor to have a ride in their 'dream car'. In exchange for a donation to charity, you can take a ten-mile ride as a passenger in one of the Dream Rides cars available, picking up and dropping off inside the show. Details of the cars available will be available closer to the show.

Last year we had around 60 cars per day ranging from Vintage tourers, classic British Sports Cars right through to today’s latest supercars Cobras, Ferraris, Maseratis, Porsches, GT40’s, Jags, MG’s, TR’s, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins and more should, once again, be available to take you out for your very own Dream Ride.

I keep thinking about this - done Kimbolton before and really enjoyed it, though as far as dream rides goes that event is fairly quiet.
If I can do it then most likely it will be the Saturday only - any idea what sort of ride popularity the TVR T350 is likely to get? Can I book time out to nose round the show myself? Is the route normally marked (I don't know the roads around Brum)? What law enforcement presence is normally around?
Who do I contact if I do want to sign up?

Once you are signed up, you can drive as much or as little as you like. Just tell the nice folk on the booking desk what hours you are available and wander off to enjoy the show.
You can take a nice photo with you, or just let them take one on the day. You will need to know performance statistics, for your cool wall entry. Your TVR would be most welcome, don't recall too many there last year.
Routes are quite elastic, never did the same one twice. ALways found my eay back by following another grinning loon.
Police are to be treated like any other day. Didn't see one last year, even when travelling "off boost".

I might do two days, so I can get in some passenger rides myself.

Obviously the police should be treated as normal - but there were two or three different plain cars out over all three days - as a couple of us found out!!
You have been warned

That was the problemsmileits OK if you see them

There was a lot of police last year even one driving with its blues on into the dream rides bit of the NEC and a couple of un-marked cars now and again around the route, think one was an R32?

i know Paul in his viper unfortunately got caught out by the focus...

I'll be there again with the Pace Car. I've got a weekend in London with the lady friend so will just have to do the preview day on Friday. I guess this will be a bit quieter than the usual public days but it's all I can fit in this year.

good news chaps - guess I should get my PH sticker so we can meet up. Last year I was so busy I hardly spoke to any new people, just the folk from my local area who I know from the Kimbolton show.
Anyone needs a co-pilot in their Lambo/XJ220/60's car, I can fill a seat. biggrin

Hi Rob

I was going to post in a couple of weeks time but you’ve beat me to it, Mick will be please, keep up the good work

It would help Mick and his team if everyone fills in the forms and posts them to Mick as soon as possible and not leave it to do on the day, also if they’re new or have changed their car to include a spare 6” X 4” photo of the car

Rob (and all) there’s now a better sign-up page, I’ve listed it below

If you want to you could edit these links into your original post or use them as you wish

I'm defo coming along. The only thing I am worried about is the rozzers though (and thats coming from a very safe and legal driver). frown

Safety will be of the up-most importance at all times - especially since a lot of riders are infact children, but it would be very unfair of the Police to provoke potential "showing off" moments. If an unmarked R32 came close to me looking for me to make even the slightest of offences (5mph over the limit for a few seconds) then I would feel both a) harrased after being provoked into speeding away and b) feeling sorry for the paying passenger (lets face it - the cars are very powerful and fast and will occasionally raise a few eye brows, but all is ok if within limits).

Its about a day where individuals are raising money for good causes and putting smiles on the faces of many. I hope the Police realise this and won't start going on crazy power trips.

What did the people do last year to get caught? Anyone know? I really don't want to be driving people around like a boring taxi looking out for the Police when infact I am really not doing anything wrong. It would slightly ruin my day...

I think people are getting a bit hung up about this police thing.
It is completely up to you how you drive - a bit of hard aceleration etc will put a smile on many a face.
i was one of the unlucky / lucky ones who got caught slowing down for a bend at 130 something or other and got booked for doing 90 something or other by a very understanding officer. it certainly slowed me down for the rext of the weekend and will again this year.

Remember it is on public roads around the NEC not a race track!!!
