Dads Day Out/Sunday Service Update
Discussion
Firstly, Thank You to everyone who came down yesterday to show your cars, drive, get flung around by the supercars or Caterhams or just generally to support the event.
A very special Thank You also to everyone who volunteered their time to help run the event on the day. It's always tough to be working when there's so much fun to be had and they did an amazing job dealing with the crowds, helping with the queues, selling tickets or marshaling the cars and track. Everyone involved with the event really appreciated all the efforts made.
This year, the total number of people who came along was well over 4,500 (i think it may well be closer to 5,000) and although the final figures are yet to be calculated, we appear to have raised in excess of
£63,000
Every penny raised goes to the charity
Some general info;
We did close to 900 rides in an extended period and there was no way we could have done anymore than that.
Understandably, The Children's Trust are over the moon and are very grateful to everyone for helping the day such a success.
That figure is in no small part due to the efforts of Pistonheaders who leant their support in so many different ways, this includes Paul Garlick and the rest of the PH management who were happy to move a few things around so we could make this event a Sunday Service and help us with advice and ideas as well.
It took almost 9 months of planning to make it happen, the bulk of it done by unpaid volunteers in their spare time. We had last year as our benchmark when 3,000+ people turned up and we did over 800 rides. and raised around £30,000.
For 2010 We knew that the rest of the event needed to be better, which is why we added 3 more options in terms of having fun in cars. The Caterhams at the other end of the event drifting around (at £10 they were a real bargain and i think they were over subscribed) were a particular success.
We also added more marquees and more entertainment in the shape of live bands, a motorbike and mountian bike display teams as well as more stuff for kids to do. The food was much better this year although we're aware the queues were longer than we would have liked so it may simply be a case of adding extra vans.
We're aware that not everything was perfect, some of the volunteers didnt arrive til after people were arriving so the early part was rather fraught and the queues for the supercars were also longer than we would have liked (but the volunteers manning the queues were immense imho) some of it due to sheer volume some of it due to cars not always functioning as well as they could.
We had plenty of cars on the day....there were 5 F40's and 2 Spykers which is rare enough! There were over 100 on the list, all supercars in one form or another and appealling to most if not all tastes.
All the drivers gave up their time (and fuel/tyre costs...mentioning no names!
) to take people out for the ride of their lives, and i dont think anyone held back which is a testament to them. They deserve all the credit they received
We'll learn the lessons from this year and make sure 2011 is better still.
Thank you again from everyone on the Dads Day Out organising team

Thank you again from everyone on the Dads Day Out organising team
Congratulations and well done to everyone involved, that is an impressive figure for a well deserving charity.
My "borrowed child" and I had a fantastic day. He is still grinning according to his Mum and driving her slightly mental telling her how crap her car is
I'll keep my eyes peeled for next year, I would be more than willing to give my time to support you

I can tell you that we had 176 passenger rides (my wife was doing the booking in) and we had a great time And well done to everybody else who helped out at this event.
Damn fine day out! Well worth the cold and rain in a screen-free car just to make the trip up! Me and the other 'alf thoroughly enjoyed it, the rides we had were great, a (generally) very friendly atmosphere too. A big, BIG pat on the back to the organisers and everyone involved!!
Oh, and if you every have the desire to let Caterhams and reps run the track providing laps, I will gladly donate my tyres and fuel!!!

Well done to all the organisation team. Amazing to double your previous target.

Only thing i wondered, where was the PH parking? I just got marshalled in the normal car park (which was fine) just intrigued!
Facing the autocross/slalom course by the engineless jump jet. Which was a shame as it would have been nice to be with the other owners clubs. Felt a bit isolated.Only thing i wondered, where was the PH parking? I just got marshalled in the normal car park (which was fine) just intrigued!
£63k is brilliant Bachi, well done. As I mentioned to you there were a couple of organisational issues but generally I think the people who went out in the supercars had a great time and understood the waiting times. I certainly heard no major complaints or issues all except one chap who was moaning that he wanted to go out in the Enzo and failed to understand that the fact it was not working was not a slight aimed personally at him!
The people who drove their cars there could not have been better, amazingly generous with their time and cars and I think they enjoyed it too. I am sure they all had fun hooning about on the track anyway but I really did think it was so incredible how much people contributed to the day, the drivers, the bands, the helpers, everyone.
I saw very little other than the track area but everyone seemed to have a great day out.
Bachi, I have some idea of how much you put in to get this to happen and how hard you worked yesterday and you did a stunning job mate. You should be really proud of yourself.
Already looking forward to next years which I am sure will raise even more money for a really great charity.

excellent result.I guess the only thing I'd say, which might be hard to do, is to totally seperate the cars that are in the normal vs blue ribbon supercar rides into seperate areas / queues etc. Also maybe take a look at how the cars are split between the two as it didn't make sense for a V8 Vantage (however nice they are) to be in the blue ribbon section and yet the Murci Roadster / 599 to be in the normal pool IMO.
Even allowing for the wait, I got a passenger ride in a F40 which made the day rather fookin great

PS. I'd happily help out next year if you need more people to help Marshall etc.
Top Stuff Bachi et al
It was fantastic to see so many awesome cars being beasted round the track
Will definately be back next year. And if any of the drivers start to get a bit tired in the afternoon, I'd be happy to take over to keep the rides happening
See you at Goodwood if not before

that is an excellent result on the cash front. It was a brilliant day and well organised if you look at all the angles and how much stuff was going on. My kids each had a ride in an Atom & X-bow and were both speechless with huge grins; I went out in the Cobra and had an excellent ride (thankyou Peter). Well done to Bachi & Co - outstanding job!
