I'm doing it again this year, so is my better half. Well worth it for the atmosphere and great cars there.

What's the deal for spectators? Do you need to buy tickets or is it a "lean on the railings and watch for free with an ice-cream" type event?

You can watch for free from the top (on Marine Parade, 2 levels up, very crowded) or pay £10 to go down to Madeira Drive and mingle in the open pits and stand almost next to the cars (& bikes) while they burnout and launch. Definately worth paying IMHO.

I have been the last few years. One of the best value for money and fun motor sport events of the year without doubt.

The practice runs start around 9ish I think, by which time it is already pretty packed down in the pit area, where the cars are warming their rubber up.

Level One above the pits gets very busy fairly early on as well, so if you are planning on taking a spot near the start line get down there very early.

The only disadvantage with standing slightly further away from the start line (I normally end up about 250 metres further down), is that you don't actually get the benefit of the electronic timing board at the start line which records the times of each car on it's run. You end up relying on the announcer/ commentator giving the times over the PA which more often than not doesn't happen. It's the same guy that does it every year- and his style and humour are as much a part of the day as the cars. Just wish they would put an additional timings board half way down Madeira Drive that's all!

Hi Russ wavey

I'll be there again this year smile (need to beat that pesky Sp6 engine thing this time, as he hasnt stopped going on about it for almost a year rolleyes )

As an aside, D14AYS and myself are also doing the B&HMC Goodwood Sprint in August. Fancy that too?

Do you know if the entry forms are out for the sprint? It's on my to do list this year and haven't seen anything yet.

They were sent out a couple of weeks back. Not sure when the cut-off date is but might be an idea to phone Tony Johnstone (its on the B&HMC's website) and ask if there is still room/time.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll get in contact with Tony ASAP.

I've done a couple of sprints at goodwood this year, would be great to get back there and try and correct all of the mistakes!

With regards to the speed trials, I take it you'd need something with some reasonable power to make the most of the event, not sure the S2000 would be all that much fun.

Quite the opposite. The great thing (IMO) about the BST is the variation (all equalled in the Member's handicap class) From an old Bentleys to MGFs, to original Minis to current Supercars. One guy turns up each year in his Bentley convertible and just wafts off the line and up the road. Brilliant smile

Its not about the times, its about taking part in the event thumbup

Maybe I'll have to speak to him about the speed trials as well,

Could be an expensive weekend as I'm sprinting at Brands hatch the day after.

The pre-requisite for entering your car into the event is membership of the Brighton and Hove motor club. Entry forms for the Speed Trials are sent out several months before it takes place and entries are pretty much decided on a first come first served basis I think.
Have a look at the Brighton and Hove Motor Club website for full details.
But even if you are unable to compete, it's well worth going down just to watch.
