McLaren F1 at MaartenMemorial
Discussion
In 2003 our friend Maarten van Sten died of cancer at the age of 27. Maarten was a very passionate sportscar enthousiast and probably the greatest Lotus ambassador in the Netherlands. He kept driving his Lotus until the very end. Because he didn't feel ill, while he was doing that, he always said. Remembering those words, we decided to set up a charity event in the Netherlands. Our primary goal is to let cancerpatients forget their illness for one day by taking them from Rotterdam to the racetrack in Zandvoort in 100 of the Hollands finest sportcars. Secondary we raise money for cancer research of the hospital, that treated Maarten so very well during his last days. The first 6 editions raised € 670.000. Thanks to our partners we only had to spent €1500 on expenses over the last 6 year in total. So nearly all of it went to Maarten's hospital. Enough to have our 'own' Maarten van Sten laboratory, which will be opened in September 2010. The next edition of our Maarten Memorial will be held on the 2nd of August.
Over the years we've always tried to surprise our passengers with some last minute surprise cars. We've had some fantastic stuff including Blower Bentleys, Veyrons, Carrera GT's, Alfa 8C2600 Monza, Bugatti T35's, everything. But we've never been able to get a McLaren F1, one of Maarten's favourites. Unfortunately there are no F1's in the Netherlands, so therefore I decided to post it here. It's our 7th edition of the event and we want to be lucky!
If you know any owner or own one yourself and are willing to help 100 cancerpatients forget their illness for one day on Monday 2nd August, please drop me a line at koen at lccrocket dot com
You can find a video impression of last year here: http://www.nuvideo.nl/algemeen/29430/even-je-ziekt... and visit our website at http://www.maartenmemorial.com Both are in Dutch, but Google will help you translate the site.
Thanks for reading and helping us get our Macca!
