BRUNTINGTHORPE - 15/8/2010 HELP ! HELP ! HELP !
Discussion
I have just heard from the organisers that the Scuderia Club has dropped out from the event . It would be great if we can fill the void and operate 12 pit gates on the day or develop a drive through lane if it proves more productive . The event is an enjoyable day not only for the drivers but for friends and family together with helping childens charities. So if you have an Exotic , Interesting or Fast ride and are willing to make a committment Please Please Please email me your name and address Vehicle details including Reg No. and contact telephone nos .
Should you wish to make a weekend of it Asda have arranged a concession with the Barcelo Hotel at Hinckley Island B&B £55.00 Double Room indicate if you want the promotion code .

Hi Steve! I did this for you a couple of years ago (Yamaha R1 engined car). I may be able to help out again, but last time it didn't go too smoothly as we only had about 5 passes for about 20 cars, and one massive queue for 1 Porsche, one massive queue for 1 Ferrari, and litterally nobody wanting to go in Ariel Atom, TVR, Caterham, Lotus, Phoenix ect. so we were standing about most of the day , 3 passes between 18 of us! May I suggest a rolling bus-stop system where the public get into the next car in, no fussing? That way as well there is no problems with passes either.
(Lee you could delete those extra posts)
I’ve only done ASDA once before so I’m not sure about the passes by why not just pay the fiver to get in (even if you have a pass) it’s only a fiver and it’s all going to charity
I’m with you on the bus stop system, we’ve used it at our old Brooklands events but even then people shuffle in the queue
As for standing around all day, well, not everyone is blessed with my good looks, athletic body, charm and race driver skills so they have to sell themselves and their car a bit, one way to do this is to take out another driver that’s standing around doing nothing (up to you both if a donation is given) when people see and hear your car moving they’re more likely to want to go out in it
If things are still slow for you after say 15 mins of getting back from that ride you jump in someone else’s car as a passenger who’s also standing around doing nothing
Or you could book out for a while and take a rest and look at the rest of the show
Or you could help out with something else on the rides other than driving your car

Hi Nigel, not sure what you mean??
About paying a fiver, I was not on about paying to get in!! By the time I have taken a day off work, fuel for the cars 350 mile round trip, track fuel and stone chip repairs we are probobly talkig £400 before we start, so £5 to get is of no issue to me!
As for standing around, I was just pointing out there were 5 passes between 12 cars in the pit box and around another 10 cars / drivers were parked in the car park 100yds away where they were just redundent. As for trying to drum up some interest in the lowly'er cars we couldn't, we had 5 passes between us as stated, and one guy who I shall not name broke his exhaust and selfishly buggered off with one pass stuffed down his jumper so he could keep it, that left 4 between 11. I did pay to ride in my mates R500, he had a pass temporarily but with about 20 people waiting for the Porsche and Ferrari he was just sitting there idly. It wasnt a case of it being slow for the lesser cars, but people were given a choice of vehicle they wanted and as a business man I could see that till was not ringing and raising money like it could of, as it would with a bus stop system.
We also did help out loading and sorting helmets etc, but thats not really why we got up at 4.30am and drove halfway across England to help.
I am only offering some advice to Steve, if it was not for people like Steve and the owners of some great cars these events would not happen, Steve has my upmost respect for organising things his end. It is just the money raised would be far greater and everybody would feel they did their bit if the pit organisation was slightly different. As it stood, me and Rob said after that we would have been better giving a cheque for £600 between us direct to ASDA, and stayed at home then everybody would have been better off, that puts things into perspective a bit. Tomorrow morning I am getting up at 04.30 again to do Wishes4Kids at Donnington, similar thing and cannot wait.
Steve, I hope it all goes well for you mate.

Hi Lee, I wasn’t criticising you more of an open post for others
Sorry I’m lost on this passes thing too, if 12 cars were agreed then I’d have thought you’d have got 12 passes – but – as you know not every who promises turns up for various reasons and some people turn up without letting the organisers know
Great you got involved in helping with the other very important but not so glamorous elements
Different organisers have different ideas of how to do things and of course welcome ideas – if someone has a lot of good ideas then I suspect they’d suggest they become an organiser
As the day is not a car event as such the public there will seek the badges and cars the media have told them they should
As for it being a lot cheaper just to give a cheque instead for some wow would it be but it’s missing the point and lets be honest these events are great for the drivers egos, self-esteem and conscience
Not sure if you’ve been on a SBDR but you and your mates would be welcome to apply, the popularity of the cars and drivers can vary a lot from event to event, day to day and even hour to hour with what you think would be very popular standing still and visa-versa – it all depends on the public there at that time and what they understand of the event
Hope to see you there Lee, I'll be there with an unpopular car and mates with hopefully popular cars

No offence taken Nigel! As regarding badge snobs, I also luckily own an 270 bhp Impreza and Porsche Boxster S, but I know what car of mine I'd want a high speed thrill ride in, and its not those two!! They are not even in the ballpark, but as you say until they see the R1 Phoenix in action they will probobly go for the soft options!
I'm sure if they saw the R1 going round they'd be more interested
Porsche would work fot badge
Scooby for cool and taking more than one passenger so good for families and groups of mates
So you've got a choice I'd say
Good luck, come over and say Hi if you get a chance - I'm tall, blond, good looking with an athletic body - you can miss me on Gate 6 I believe

Steve,
I have run the Viper pit for the last seven years at this event and it can be a blast, problems are very few, biggest is getting someone to take the money, I normally grab several of the Air Cadets who are very keen to help, if you need any help then please PM me a phone number and I will give you a ring.
Not putting anyone down or there cars but punters really want and will queue for the best car they can get when we close our pit last year we had raised well over a grand but also done that in fuel.
If you need a car, then you can have either the Audi R8, Viper SRT10 or the Viper GTS/R.
Not sure of your experience but if you need a pit chief then please let me know.
Two years ago we raised enough cash to take 100 Terminally ill kids to Lapland....makes you feel good.
Last year I was on track all day, if you need more passes I can get these from John and a priority pit at the front which means no queueing.

Paul - Sheila, possibly Liz and I will be helping Steve, Sheila off course being the chief moneygrabber (Steve doesn't know what he's let himself in for!)
If we get a chance we'll pop over to your section to say "Hi" and see how it's done the Viper way, and I'll try and get a ride I'm owed by Nad from Brooklands (2003?)
