Hot on the heels of the Kent Run yesterday I want to get a general vibe for who would be up for a similar format of 'run, except this time in Northern France.

Datewise it will be towards the end of Spring next year.

The plan is to meet at Dover/Folkstone and then drive the route for roughly 3-4 hours (including planned stops/photo opps) before stopping at a restuarant for lunch somewhere for an hour or so. The afternoon will be another 3-4 hours of driving finishing back at Calais to catch our train/ferry home at around 5:00-6:00pm.

It would of course involve buying yourself a Chunnel / Ferry ticket in advance of course, so before I go too far down the line sorting the route out I want an idea on numbers.

As you'll see from the times above it will be a full day event.
You will be tired
You will be knackered
You will do a few tanks of petrol
Your car may need a week to cool down
...but it will be 'The Kent Run' X 10

Cheers
Lee

I think you would need to venture further in to France to really enjoy yourself. The Gendarmerie in the vicinity of the ports can be quite hot on spirited driving, and are often on the lookout for UK drivers. Furthermore, if you are caught being really naughty, you stand the risk of having your car confiscated.

To really enjoy driving in France you need to get away from the coast. The scenery tends to be better and there is less risk of bumping in to the law. Downside is that you really would need more than a day to do it justice.

A one day jaunt is feasible as long as you don't go too mad, and you do have the advantage that roads in France tend to have a lot less traffic to hinder your progress.

Thanks for the advice, the plan would be to get away from that area as quick as possible for the exact same reasons you highlight.

As much as I agree that to do France justice you need too venture further than 1 day makes possible... but the idea is to give those who enjoy the Kent Runs something a bit more special for a whole day rather than just a morning.

Comparing the roads in Northern France to those around the Alps etc and your bound to be disapointed, but compare the roads to those in Kent and you'll come away very happy indeed, and that is the point.

You will be back home within 12 hours on this run and still have a great day.

Why dont you join us?

Edit: I know you didnt compare to the Alps, but you get the idea... smile

Sounds ambitious......... but i like that biggrin boundaries are best when pushed yes

If it's a one day Sortie over the Channel then i think i would need a saturday over-nighter somewhere with secure parking near the point of crossing or i would be totally mullered at the end of the day and even so may need you to do me a sick note for work on the monday if you have any medical qualifications biggrin

Think Petrolhead Nirvana may be slightly ahead on this idea but with a more comprehensive Tour planned.......... a one dayer may well whet my appetite for something like that biglaugh

I'm in, depending on dates of course. Agree a weekender would be good.

How about those who want to go over on Saturday and meet the day-trippers the other side?

Could stay over night somewhere, the only reason I haven't suggested it is because there are plenty of companies that do weekend tours. So if thats what a few of us fancy then we might aswell find one we all like and book it up.

I couldn't organise a 2-dayer better than petrolhead nirvana for example, but a 1 day jaunt is virtually unheard of through these companies, hence the idea.

Not fussed on numbers, even if theres only a dozen of us. So long as everyone has a good time it doesn't matter to me...

Personally I would be up for a weekend tour by one of these companies, the only reason I haven't done one in the past is that I have the most un-petrolhead group of friends known to man! Now there a few of us regulars on the Kent Runs of past we could just get together and do a weekend tour???

Very much open to ideas and suggestions, whatever happens I think it would be good fun to get us lot onto the continent.

Yes, please include me in any details for this!
Recent day trip with the E Sussex TVRCC was great!
Despite the comments about getting away from the area, the coast road back from boulonge to calais is definately interesting.
I didn't get involved with the Kent run as I normally work Sundays, but would like to find the time for this if we have some notice on the dates.
Cheers, Dean

having done 3 'awaydays' with southern kit car pals this year in the Region i'm sure that it'll be a great day/run, there are some stonking roads without going too far down. Better still the locals love the cars.
Potentially interested depending date as kicking dates around for our next 'Le Blat' which actually will be taking in a bit of Belgium and Ypres - sometime around May.

Sounds like fun. I'd certainly be interested in heading over the day before and staying over somewhere 'en route' in order to be fresh as a daisy the following morning (that rather assumes I don't polish off too much wine the night before, however...).

What's the deal on super unleaded in France? Is it pretty common?
