Apologies if this is in the wrong forum but it is an event that I plan to travel to! I am considering it as an alternative to LM, and in 2011 the dates are 25-26th June, later than usual and two weeks (I think) after LM. Has anyone been before? Comparisons to the LM experience? Me and a few friends would probably head down earlier in the week and camp.

I think a week pass is 59E which seems great value, are there any recommendations on camp sites and spectating areas? I have not been to the ring before, although I am familiar with different parts of the track. I may well be looking into this too early as I don't know the scale of camping space to spectators and how quickly they book out, but any recommendations on sites to book with etc. would be great, or if there are any other threads documenting this then that's great.

Cheers

I've been thinking about going to this for a couple of years. Usually pretty crazy apparently.

I'd need to go there first though to scan the place out, because it's huge smile

Yeah I have heard all sorts of crazy stories of treehouses and raves and such like, apparently the atmosphere is pretty good! No idea where to start looking for the right campsites etc, there doesn't seem to be a Beermountain type site for N24. One or two friends who are up for it have been a few times and are familiar with the geography of the place, guess it will definitely be one to take a bicycle to!

I've wanted to go to this for a couple of years but the dates never suited. I go to the ring quite a lot, usually with my job, and I can only suggest you book very early. The 4D film they show of the event looks spectacular.
I'll also keep an eye on this because the dates next year fit in very well.

Guys guys. what are you waiting for? There are plenty on here that have been and it is awesome event but very different from LM. The Ring has had a huge amount of cash spent on it in the last two years and the, ahem, entertainment is first class. Plenty of camping to be had as you will find other accomodation near the track very hard to come by - even at whatever price as it tends to get booked annually by the afficianados. Try Mullenbach (search the web) for camping - within 10 minutes walk to the main entrance (the GP circuit) and has all the niceties including shower blocks, toilets (both well looked after) and a bar and small shop. Last year we didn't book and got into there with 10 of us although don't rely on that if you are turning up on Friday night!!
I will certainly be going down again (I think 5 years running now) so post up nearer the time if you do commit to it.

We camped at Mullenbach, towards the bottom of the GP track i believe. It was a 2 minute walk to the spectator area, 2 minutes to toilets, showers and food.

We arrived on the Thursday afternoon and appeared to be the last to turn up! The Germans and the Dutch take the camping aspect VERY seriously (huge affairs, including massive generators, televisions and home size fridges!). I'm intending on going back this year, should be improved with it being later in the year also.

On the Saturday we walked around 75% of the whole track, great experience.

Ask away if you have any questions. smile

Ah brilliant, I am glad there are a few veterans on here! Sounds like Mullenbach may be a safe bet, though it would be nice to be in the forest in the thick of it! Are there any sites worth a mention in terms of campsite booking? And are these available to book now? Is it like LM where there is plenty happening during the week, or just qualifying late in the week and then the race? Merci Beaucoup!

If you'd have walked the last 25% too, wouldn't you have got back to your tent? wobble

Campsite booking?!! Just turn up with some money, same applies for the entrance tickets.

There is various racing from about Wednesday through till race end. This included:

Old timer racing (Bmw m1 etc)
Drift competitions
FIA GT class (amv8, Corvette, Ferrari etc)
Junior races
Formula Ford

Basically, as soon as one race was completed, another one started within 10-15 minutes.

if you want to camp and have some decent facilities, it's Mullenbach. You risk everything else on another site - I certainly haven't heard of anything that offers comparable standards (others might?). The german lads don't do that washing/showering stuff. It's more like the first scene out of Gladiator in the woods. And I don't mean they are the romans. Awesome drinking/partying capabilities but jesus, oompah music through the night? Enough said.

Hey guys, I'm thinking about going to the N24 too in June and have just found this mob. They appear to have some trackside camping which looks pretty interesting.

Oh yeah, so they do.

You can book it all yourself and save £100. Nice try!

I am planning on racing in the Porsche World cup which is a support race for this event this year. 200 997 cup cars!!!!.

Anyway, question for you guys who have been before - is the support paddock located somewhere on the GP site? Also, I will be taking the family in the motorhome and s don't want to be in the middle of a le mans style piss up. So, ais mullenbach a no-no and is the travel destinations camp a better bet?

Thanks
Pete

Just noticed this thread, thought I'd jump on the bandwagon!

Our first time at the ring this year for the 24hr and one of our party is not particularly interested in the racing aspect. Like Le Mans is there anything other than the racing to keep him entertained? Bands? nightlife? cafe/restaurants in the day? is the theme park open, is it any better than the effort at Le Mans? Castle worth visiting?

Any ideas for extra curricular activities would be greatly welcomed! Many thanks

I went to Nurburgring 24hr in 2008 with 4 mates. We hired a huge motorhome and split the cost of it and fuel between us. We arrived at the Channel Tunnel on thurs evening, intending to sleep in the car park overnight, but fortunately got a 1am train, putting us in France a 'day' early. Whilst I slept in the motorhome, my mates thought it would be a great opportunity for an Amsterdam 'detour'. I woke at 6am on Friday, in an Amsterdam sidestreet. What followed is a long story involved young chaps and three vices smokindrinksperm etc etc but we managed to make it 24hrs later at Nurburgring. I don't know where we camped, but we had a fantastic few days - we still talk about now. You definitely need to take a pushbike of some sort, essential transport to get around. Also, the campsites I saw were all really uneven and loose stone surface, so take some good hammers for tent pegs. Very few Brits attend this event as spectators, we hardly saw any cars parked up with UK plates on them, so expect close company of many hairy arsed Germans for a few days. Oompah and all that... Great event, can't recommend it enough. Enjoy.
