I did all my first few runs on the left, thinking that would give me a wider corner & able to get better speed up onto the straight. Most I could manage was 184mph. Funny thing was, my speedo was reading low 190s, out between 8-10mph. I then later ran on the right, on the inside of the bend, and with a speedo reading of 192 or 193 - very similar to my other runs - I got a gun reading of 191. At first I put this down to a better corner onto the straight & fact I was holding the car in tiptronic for longer in each gear rather than just in auto. However now reading other people's threads on left vs right channel & fact that when I was on the left my speedo seemed to be reading about 8-10mph higher than the gun, yet on the right I was managing faster on the gun and closely aligned to my speedo, has got me thinking.
Was the gun on the right (that read higher) more accurate than that on the left for some reason (or vice versa), or is my speedo on speed?
Really like to get all your thoughts... Craig would love to get your thoughts as well - I have no idea over gun accuracy vs speedos (and I didn't have any gps to measure my speed as some people did).
Nudenut - you were in a virtually identically tuned car - yet you got much higher speed than me on my 3rd & 4th runs on the left (184mph on gun/low 190s on speedo). When you got your early 192 was that on left or right & how did it compare to what your speedo said?

The one on the left was bang on my speedo & sat nav. The one on the right was 6 mph higher. I'd love to believe I managed 174, but my sensible head tells me that the left hand lane was accurate.

Great day, roll on A dry one smile

I have a VBox, the right lane over read at higher speeds by 4 or 5mph.
and they were not reading the same all day either.
where my Vbox was about the same top speed every run.

Fog must have been an issue as when it cleared for a bit again not the same readings.

I tested the left lane at 50mph it was spot on with the Vbox.

so right lane was just over reading.

speedo has to over read by law btw.

my run
speedo speed 180Mph
right lane speed 173mph
Vbox speed 169Mph

Surely there's enough people with GPS/VBox to calibrate the lanes once an hour by driving through at a steady 150mph to check. Really the operators should do it, as they are charging for a service.

I used a VBox or GPS on my runs on previous VMaxs (haven't been for a long while) and they were usually accurate within 1-2mph even above 200mph. A 6mph over-read in the 170s is simply unacceptable.

hi all.

Great day.. I'll say more about it when i've had some sleep!

I had the timing guys recalibrate twice and was showing as spot on..

I did some testing myself after r lane v l lane was mentioned.. I always disregard speedo btw...

I used gps after you all left ...

I had the same in left lane twice and the same in right lane once.. I did one right lane run where it was 2mph quicker but that could be down to other factors..i dont know.

I can only say it as i found it. The equipment is the same as they always use and of very high quality and always accurate in the past.

I had a good day.. Fantastic bunch of people and machinery. I trust you all did too. Speak soon..getting some kip now.. Cream crackered!

Cheers all.

Hi Graig,
Just wanted to say I wasn't criticising at all, just putting the question out there. Originally I put the differences down to my speed out of the corner & tiptronic vs auto etc - only later reading the threads did it make me think otherwise. Glad to hear your comments as means my 193mph stands smile
Cracking day & look forward to the next one - I owe you a run in the RS6 (although would like a pax in the Porker puhwease!).

I've never had my needle lodged against the stop like I did yesterday but it may have something to do with a marginally longer run c/o sweeping diagonally and thus allowing fractionally more build up than normal.

Temps were turbotastic, it has to be said.

I'm sodding off to become a Viking.

That's a most ungentlemanly like question.

You, sir, are a bounder, and should be banished. One should never question a mans 200mph validity in such a way.

About par for the course, Neil.

Like I said, the speedo was off the scale which it never has been before (at Vmax wink)

Scouse et moi are veterans of the 196 frustratees society so when something special happens your twitch sensors turn red and twitch and go rouge they sure did.

The 201mph run was in the RH lane and the speedo was up against the end stop the LED at the bottom of the speedo
was showing 205mph! later I did a solo run in the LH lane using a totally straight line from the corner to trap which
resulted in a run of 197mph with the LED in the dial showing 200mph. Interestingly the max boost was showing as 1.1 bar
which is unusual as in hotter conditions i've seen 1.3 bar, so my thinking is the cooler air was more dense and with a lot of moisture being about it probably made the intercooler more efficient.

On the 201mph run as you came over the hump in the middle of the runway the car just seemed to really breathe deeply and just literally
flew, i've done many 196mph runs at Brunters in this car, but in this run it just all came together and it just found a little extra
the result was this phenominal run.

Can't wait until the next Vmax.

Onwards........

Its a real shame we don't have more GPS measurers.....come on guys the basic Performance box is only 300 quid FFS biggrin

I'm really struggling with the comments below, just doesn't square with all the high speed stuff I have done..... would the owner be willing to join a few of us for a mornings "testing" (at Brunters) at some point in the future - all in the most congenial spirit of course beer

Oh, no; the ankle biting naysayery of Rennlist... Run, run screaming.

T, read my lips : the needle was off the clock - this had never happened before.
