Hi all,

I'm in the process of organising a 'run-what-you-brung' weekend at the Nurburgring in Germany next year and want to extend the invitation to the PH community

There isn't any definite plans as yet, I want to get an idea of total numbers before looking at anything concrete, but the plan will look something like this:

Friday late a.m/early p.m - Leave from a location somewhere (no st).
Friday night - Stop in a pre-determined hotel somewhere in France/Germany.
Saturday morning - Finish the journey to Nurburg, Germany - probably via some Autobahns!
Saturday afternoon/evening - Drive round in a big circle as fast as possible.
Sunday - Come home.

The invitation is for absolutely anyone who wants to join in, you don't have to be a super-car owner, just a petrol-head (disclaimer - if you are a super-car owner, I get to have a go in it)!! I currently have little idea of who will be coming or what cars will be involved, very early days at the moment, but there will almost certainly be enough space for a couple of people per car, so you are more than welcome to just come along for the ride too (driver sharing may be an option at the track itself, down to vehicle owners discretion and necessary insurances).

If you fancy joining in with a speed-fest (on the track only, of course...), please drop me an email, along with if you will be bringing a car, what it is and how many people you could fit in if we need to, and I will collate a list of everyone interested and get back in contact with you separately.

Disclaimer #2 - It is REALLY early days at the moment, as in, just me and Mrs T, and no fixed date yet, so this may not definitely go ahead, depends on numbers that are interested.

Hopefully. The post here was just copied and pasted from one I sent round at work earlier in the week and a few people (4, so far) have come back saying their up for it.

Should have (so far) a Ferrari California (woop!!), an M5 and my M3. Should......

Fair point!!! It is VERY early doors now though! Can't really plan without knowing who's up for it!

And likewise nobody will commit unless a proper plan is in place.

That's why Petrolhead Nirvana et al work so well.

You know that it's less than 4 hrs from Calais/Dunkirk to Adenau? I don't think that you'll have many takers for the Hotel stop in France/Germany!

Why not just go with an organised tour, run by people that have everything taken care of, rather than the hassle of organising your own? Particulalry if you've never been before?

Echo the sentiments of others here. Go with an organised tour. Or on your own. Don't attempt to make your own one when you know nothing about it (with greatest respect).

As the guys above have said, make a plan, get an idea of costs and set a date, then people will be able to either commit or not.

if you leave dates open you'll find that everyone will have a different preference, the same with hotel choices...

so, to help you out a bit, a few sites to look at...

1. check when the public ring days are

http://www.nurburgring.com/

2. Hotels

http://nurburgring.org.uk/where_to_stay.html
or call Brian at 1st Tickets, he is the man to speak to re camping at the ring, much cheaper option

3. crossings

http://www.eurotunnel.com/ukcp3main
or
http://www.ferry-to-france.co.uk/

then you'll need to check your car insurance for the track (unlikely to be covered - so you'll need a contingency plan) and also make sure that everyone books themselves otherwise you'll have a tour operators liability to look at (the insurance for that isn't cheap ...trust me i know!) and you will then have a responsibility for everyone that comes with you...if you're hay to take that risk then fair enough, but if not, give people the details of where you're going, what you're booking and let them decide if they want to do the same.

Finally if you've not been before i suggest ring tuition, try someone like CAT driver training or one of the local experts

the other option is to look at a couple of trackday suppliers who do ready made trips and tag along with them, takes all the hassle out of it.
there is more to it but that should be a good start.

good luck (we don't currently arrange ring trips as there are others who do it better so until we gain enough experience to do it as well as or better, then we'll we stick to what we're good at)

hope that helps?

Cheers for the advice guys. I am only doing this as there was a couple of people at work who were chatting the other day about wanting to go and it escalated from that to 'fk it, lets just do it and get loads of people'!!!

I had no idea there were organised 'parties' that go over there already, would definitely make more sense to jump on board one of them.

I do know that the initial post doesn't give much information, but I did say on it that it was early doors at the moment and just wanted to get an idea of who might be up for it - I'm not exactly asking for a deposit now!!

Again, cheers for the advice, think I'll sort out an organised tour and save myself the arse-ache of doing it myself.

Don't give up now chap.

First of all make a list of those interested, then book dates, ferries, hotels, etc.

Take one step at a time and make sure everyone books their own thing (you can all agree to stay at the same place etc). It will be fun.

Do it and don't give up over a few PH jibes.

there's always the trade off between doing it yourself (which will save you £££££'s but take up a lot of your time and cause yourself hassle) and do the pre organised thing which will cost a bit more but (as long as you choose the right provider) be polished and leave you free to just have fun.

DIY can be fun, the sense of adventure and achievement when you do it is excellent, but as the numbers grow so does the hassle, so it's a trade off.

best of luck whatever you choose to do.

No chance of me giving up mate!! I would have taken the option of someone else organising it to begin with, just didn't know it was an option!!

I'm going to do some costings, just out of interest, and probably post it back up here once I get a rough idea of hotel cost/insurances/ferries et al. That way, if there is enough interest and the saving/freedom of having it done personally is good enough, it'll get the nod, if not, I'll replan another using a company that do it professionally.

The main cost will be fuel and making sure any nigly bits on the car are sorted, that includes, brakes, tryes, bushes, rattles, anything really. You really do not want a breakdown ruining the trip for someone.

Fuel costs a little more than it does in the UK and obviously depending on the cars it varies as to how long it will last. Fuel stop every two hundred miles would be reasonable and make sure everyone tops up. The last thing you want is for someone to be running low breaking the convoy (yes, i was once that muppet!).

Get Adac breakdown cover (this is what i had done)

http://www.adac.de/

I logged onto the ADAC website in an attempt to get membership. I put my correct address in the address fields and some goobly stuff in those that i could not. Lo and behold two ADAC cards dropped through the door a few weeks later. One for me and one for the wife.

I called Adac to make payment and they told me they will fax a form over (sod that) or i can do a bank transfer.

So i called my bank and made a transfer for two Adac Plus accounts (me & wife) costing £86.33

I used the following details to make the international bank payment.

Bayerische Landesbank
Girozentrale
München
BLZ 70050000
Account No. 4055830
IBAN: DE19700500000004055830
BIC: BYLADEMM

Please note that my bank only wanted the Adac bank address, IBAN and BIC number/code. The rest was irrelevant.
