Rallye des Jonquilles
Discussion
As I am one of many uk drivers attending this years rally I thought I`d better raise another topic on this event, as Bruno, the organisor, is not allowed to do so himself,(so say the powers that be).
anyway, the event is now fully booked up, so anyone travelling over to France for the event who wants to meet up en route ect, or for a chat an a few drinks over the weekend in Bethune this would be a good place to get together and organise a few things.
myself and Fatboy chim will be meeting at 11am at the Maidstone Services on the M20 prior to catching the 12:20 Channel Tunnel crossing, Saturday 9th April 2011, if anyone else wants to join us there most welcome.
I believe there are a few people booked for this train from memory on the previous removed thread so look forward to seeing you there.
lets hope for sunny weather, and a great weekend, steve and I have never done a road rally before, so hope not to get too lost,
looking foward to meeting you Bruno.

as he says there's 10 of us on the same chunnel - we're meeting at the Tescos at the Ashford Intil turn off, meeting there 11.20, leaving 11.30 so that we're all on the same train and not bumped up one or back one....
i have done a route passing through Agincourt where we're stopping for a coffee before we crack on to have a quick gander at Vimy.
If you fancy a bit of that - welcome, i can send you the itn for the route ( i think you'd declined the Vimy part as you'd done it before/)......
to make time we have to do 20 mins on the m/way ( toll ) and we've all got small tanks so we'll be fueled up so that we can make the days run without stopping until we get to Bethune.....
cant wait should be a crack.....
if that doesnt work for you, no doubt we'll bump into you in one of teh Bars around teh Square.....

hi, yes a meet up will be good before the tunnel, do you have a postcode for the tescos?
to be honest, not sure about where to go before going to the hotel, as we are staying over until Tuesday, so we`d have a full day on the monday to get out and about, Vimy looks interesting would that be something to do on the monday, or if we tag along with you guys on the saturday, can you rcommend places to visit in the area on the monday?

clive - the postcode seems to be this one..TN24 0YE, but its really easy to find. Junc 10 m20, come off up to the big roundabout, take the 2nd exit and its 200 yds along on the right between the old a20 and teh new m20. If you google it you'll see where i mean.
You're welcome to join in the other side, either part way or the whole shooting match....
as i think i said above, we're heading down some roads that a few of us have done before and stopping for coffee at Agincourt - then we have to be on our toes to get across to Vimy for about 4.30/4.45 as it shuts at 6.
what could you do Monday? depends what your 'bag' is.....
there are other Somme places to vist down below Arras - 'Albert' is i think a centre for folks to set out from to see what happened there, or there's just taking a leisurely drive across to the Coast area and doing coffee stops/lunch:
Hesdin is pretty for a coffee, across to Berck or Le Touquet for lunch.
( i rather like Berck as there's no lengthy drive into the Town that you get with LT), or could nip across to Belgium and do Tyne Cot or Ypres, or even Bruges come to that.
If you want the .itn file for your tomtom ( if you use one ) shout and i'll email it to you. We won't be tarelling in a convoy of 10+ cars its impractical, so we'll have a couple of groups to keep it manageable.

Thanks for the info Mark, yes we will join you for your trip on the other side, but probably go as far as the coffee stop at Agincor, then head off to our hotel from there, as it will be a 7am start for us on the saturday.
another question, when using your satnav in france, I assume the "postcode" you enter the 5 digit number at the end of the address? for example our hotel is, BEST WESTERN La Metairie 1 Bis Rue De Fouquieres, Gosnay, 62199, F, so just enter the 62199?
sorry for the numpty questions, but you may have guessed its our first time driving in france
yes please on the tom tom itinery, clivef@uwclub.net
you lot will probably have a right laugh at our expense as its our first time in this sort of event, as you seem like hardened veterans at this sort of thing
we`ll be along for the ride and enjoy the experience

sorry cant help with how to prog the sat nav in france - as have only ever planned routes from here and then used the itn function......
7am the next morning - err bad planning? we'cve got the whole of a mile and a half from the hotel to teh Town Square.
i'd suggest that you amend the route i'm sending you - take out whatever is surplus after Azincourt and then add your own waypoints to lead you to the Hotel - or rather the road that the Hotel is in....
seasoned, us? no we've never done anything like this although a fair few of us have had 'awaydays' over there as its so easy to get to and so much fun on their roads.....

think you`ve got wrong end of the stick,
I said a 7am start on the saturday, not sunday, have to catch a car ferry before I can go anywhere!hence the reason to get to our hotel for a reasonable time in the afternoon, chill out for a while before dinner ect.
from there on the sunday morning its only 5 minutes drive to the town square.

you've done well to make the timing work for the Sunday then, we looked at the Chunnel but there werent any running before 06.20, hence going on the Sat.
and yes Clive i see what you mean, sorry was being a bit slow on that one.....we won't be a million miles from the area where your Hotel is, so you're welcome to tag along for a while after Azincourt and then peel off.....after your chillout you can line the beers up ready for us :-)

Speed isn't everything (no, really), trust your sense of direction (if you've got one), don't just follow other people assuming they know the way, and never, ever give up.

Team Gilmu, we are staying here, http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/propertyMa...
I think most of the other chaps are in Bethune itself.
