Donington Historic - Get Your PH Discount Now

The new Historic Festival at Donington gets ever-closer - and we've with got you a quarter off

The inaugural Historic Festival arrives on 30th April, with more than 300 cars set to compete from the whole history of motorsport. From skinny-tyred pre-war racers four-wheel drifting around McLean's to rip-snorting Group C Le Mans racers roaring up the main straight (and everything in-between) the weekend promises to offer an orgy of noise and speed. And PHers can save 25 per cent on entry, with under-16s getting in free.

If pre-war racers are your thing, then the 'Mad Jack' should be right up your exhaust pipe. Named after acclaimed racing driver, pilot and all-round good-egg, 'Mad Jack' Shuttleworth, this 45-minute, two-driver race will feature some of the best pre-war racers in the world, from enormous 8.0-litre Bentleys to glorious Type-35 Bugattis.

Tin-top fans are well catered for as well, with touring car racers from 1972-1985 taking part in the JD Classics series. This will feature legendary racers from BMW, such as the 2002 and the 3.0 CSL 'Batmobile'. Ford is represented by the RS2600 'Cologne' Capri and Escort RS1600s, while Chevrolet will provide a few V8-engined leviathans.

Oh, and we almost forgot to mention the massive grid of Group C racers, which promise to bring a certain 'drama' to the weekend.

Single seaters from classic karts to Formula 2 racers will also feature and there will be a 250km, two-driver endurance race for sports prototypes from 1964-1971.

Entrance to the museum is also available on a 'buy one, get one free' basis. The museum, which features the largest collection of Grand Prix cars in the world, is spread over five halls with over 130 exhibits and a rather good shop where you can spend all that money that PH has saved you on entrance to the Festival.

If all that isn't enough for you, then the infield will play host to many classic car clubs, large and small, featuring hundreds of immaculate classics for you to gently dribble over.

Gates open at 8.30am, with the action beginning at 9.00am running through to 8pm on Saturday and 6pm on Sunday.

That 25 per cent PH discount means adult Saturday or Sunday advance tickets will be £13.50, while weekend tickets are only £22.50.

To book online, click here. Alternatively, call the 24-hour ticket booking line on 0844 873 7355, quoting the special PistonHeads promo code PHDHF1 to claim your 25 per cent discount.

The organisers have also offered us the chance to create a private PH parking area on the Sunday.

So if you have already got tickets for the Sunday, or plan to come along, and would like a private priority parking area, do let us know in the thread below and we'll get something sorted...

I plan to be there, subject to the usual constraints of driving a classic car, with my Jaguar XK140SE FHC. With the expected arrival of a C-Type etc, perhaps you could arrange a display area?

Any plans for a stand on Saturday? If so, I'll bring the Exige out. My dad will also be in attendance in his AM V8V. We're off to Goodwood Breakfast Club on Sunday instead so just attending Saturday at Donington.

No plans for Saturday I'm afraid.

IF we can get a collection of cars together that warrant a parking area on the Sunday I'll happily organise it. However, to be worth the organisers efforts we'll need to get at least 50 cars together.

If the interest is there, I'll make the call smile

Not to worry, I'll put the word about anyway. There might be a few takers for a stand. If anything changes concerning Saturday, let us know - we can certainly bring the aforementioned cars down.

We'll be there all weekend, camping in the Hotel grounds - yes, they do know about it smile

Keep an eye out for a red Ginetta G27 and a Black MX-5/Eunos, come and say hello.

Bring biscuits.

A friend was at a test day at Donington today and shared the track with some historic F1 cars (Williams, Arrows and Benetton). Anyone know if we can expect to see these in action over the weekend at the Historic (nothing about them on the website)?

p.s. Just bought a ticket for Sunday thumbup

Could you add me to the list for private PH parking area. Lotus Elise S1 Sport160 and a pretty special Elan. Thanks

Hi Guys

Thanks for the responses so far. To set up a parking area we'll need to get a group of at least 50 cars (ideally more) so we have a fair way to go. Fingers crossed we'll be able to attract enough along.

Garlick,

We might get more interest if a Sunday Service style list was set up? Limited (apparent) supply makes for more demand... smile

Might be worth linking the original article to this one - think there are 3 pages worth of comments after the first news story regarding the ticket offer so lots of those posters might not realise this thread exists...

Have annoyingly ruptured my achilles tendon over the weekend so after my op today am in plaster for a couple of months so might not be going now frown

Have emailed organisers to see if there is any "disabled" parking. Gutted as was very much looking forward to looking round the paddock.
