Volvo v70 D5 2005 108k miles

This problem has happened 2 times now.

Stop start manoeuvering (i.e. small forward/back movements) have resulted in a very loud 'crack' noise coming from (what appears to be) the front, passenger side wheel area. It has only done it twice, both times under the same conditions of a small forward/back movement, into reverse(or first), small backwards(or forwards) movement and then the next movement (in opposite direction) creates a very loud crack. First time was with steering and the 2nd time was in a straight line. Both very low speed (obviously). The 2nd time was after dropping someone off, they actually came back to the car thinking I had hit something.

I know the car needs new tie rods inner/outer but I wouldnt think that would create the sound? What should I be looking at/telling garage to look at?

Any obvious suspects?

Thanks

No idea on your specific vehicle. But it only takes a very small amount of play on some suspension components to create an awful lot of noise.

Check for play in your outer CV joints! (maybe a split boot and then dirt gets in and they wear V rapidly!)
