Hi all,
Can someone please help.
My daughter has a 1999 V reg Corsa 1.0 12v, it was a great little car to start with but unfortunatley, about a month ago she turned engine off & it would'nt start again. I bought a new battery, thinking it was that but there was still nothing happening when you tried to start it.
Bought a second hand Starter motor off Ebay & that sorted it........or so i thought, a week later, same happened again. So i bought a new starter motor, which worked great for another week.
Its now starting to really p###s me off now. What is making this little car EAT starter motors.

Check the earth connections, a poor one can lead to irratic starting problems.

You need to work your way through all the electrical connections checking or remaking them. It sounds like every time you work on the car you are disturbing something that then works for a while and fails again.
You could try moving the wiring about whilst someone is trying to start it but be very careful where you have your hands as we don't want to loose you in the moving parts.

On the earthing wires, dont just wiggle them, that proves nothing, disconnect them, clean all/both surfaces with a wire brush and reconnect, tightly ensuring a good metal to metal bond.

Does the engine actually turn over and not fire, or does it not turn over at all?

when you turn ignition on, all lights come on as normal but when you try & start it, there is nothing, not even a click. The previous starter motors once removed, have had power put through them & are dead.

Have exactly the same problem on a Porsche 924, but it's intermittent. Am thinking starter solenoid is on the blink. Will check earths etc.

If thats the case and you are not a competent auto-electrician, then you might have to start thinking about getting the local garage to check it out....

When you put power to them did you try just through the solenoid or direct across the motor?

It may help to know which part of the starter was dead.

I'm also at a loss to know what type of electrical fault can kill a new starter as they are pretty robust beasts.
