Reading all the above posts and then checking out said product descriptions both the Redline MTL and Castrol SMX-S are both synthetic and have pretty much the same viscosity 70W80 & 75/85 respectively while the Royal Purple is also synth but has a viscosity of 10W30.

Pricing seems similar +/- a few quid.

I'm inclined to go for the Redline or Castrol but what further thoughts re the differing viscosity numbers?

T5 box should be Dexron II fluid.

Did you follow the PH thread link above in Turbopug's post?

Hi Al,

I'm converting my De Tomaso from auto to a the T5 stick shift. The SEAC can make do with the LT77.

I imported a 'built' one from the US that can handle the grunt, read that as torque.

Well done! ALL World Class T-5 use ATF oil and NOT a big heavy gear oil or Redline MTL! The NON-World Class T-5s use 70 wt gear oil.

That being said, Castrol SMX-S shouldn't kill it and might even improve it. It is made for manuals that require thinner fluid. Never tried it though.

ATF not stodgy gear oil. Been belting over 400hp through mine for years without trouble.

Speak to Jon Reid at Readman Racing.

You will need to know the spec of the box before anyone can correctly advise on oil.

TTC who own Tremec who purchased Borg Warner just got back to me with;

The WC T-5 takes 5.63 pints of Mobile 1 Synthetic ATF.

However, I decided this morning to purchase the Castrol SMX-S but Halfrauds only had two litres so looks like I'll need another litre.
