HP fuel pump leak
Discussion
Having solved the NVH problem with the HP fuel pump on my Bowler I find this morning the cause of the occasional petrol leak and smell - the pump is leaking from where the casing is crimped around the outlet and electrical terminals. When the pump is running a fine jet of petrol spurts out. That put an end to my green-laning trip today as I don't have a spare yet (at £90 each it is a bit pricey to have just-in-case).
The pump is a Bosch 0580464070 - am I best returning it directly to Bosch? I don't expect anything in return but I think it is worth filing a warranty claim.
I bought the pump from an ebay vendor and am about to see whether the vendor is still trading.
Have any other PHers come across this problem?
The pump is secured to a bracket by two jubilee clips with 2mm rubber sheet between the clips and the pump. The clips are snug tight but not tight enough to have deformed the pump casing to cause the leak.

Hi,
yep, casing stamped with Bosch and logo, all markings appear as per genuine Bosch components. It was supplied in a plain white cardboard box - not the usual yellow with red logos; could it be a "factory second"? I have contacted the vendor regarding warranty returns and have film and photographs showing the installation and extent of the leak.
I was surprised at how leaky the casing was, glad I mounted the pump so that the outlet pointed away from the exhaust.
cheers

I have only ever known one genuine pump to have a leak in the end plate O ring crimp, and that had been a pump which was in a pretty large accident (rally car >>>>>! tree backwards!). I suspect yours may not a genuine one.
You don't need to worry about gasoline on exhaust manifolds, it just flashes off to vapour straight away (unlike less volatiles such as enigne oil, pas fluid and worst of all Brake fluid). However a fine mist of pressurised fuel and any "high temperature" source of ignition like a spark etc would be bad..............

Hi,
the pump appears to be stamped rather than engraved, the definition of the stamping is good but I will have a look on t'internet for images of genuine pumps for comparison purposes.
The exhaust manifolds on RV8 have the spark plugs adjacent to them - petrol + heat + spark = a tomcat which goes woof!
