Shifting issues

Recently I've found it hard to shift into 3rd gear sometimes. Car is an MR2 Turbo.
Sometimes it goes in without issue, albeit slowly, sometimes it feels like I'm pushing against a solid object and it wont go into gear and I have to move the stick back to neutral and then try again.
The clutch is disengaging fine, have checked and adjusted the rod between pedal and master cylinder, which did improve things marginally.

If adjusting the clutch MC clevis improved it, then you have a clutch issue- leaky slave, bent release arm, air in the fluid... Otherwise you have a baulky shift caused by a worn synchro (blocker ring?) A change of oil might improve it but ultimately it's a mechanical problem which will need fixing!

Clutch itself was new 2 months ago. No issues found when replacing it, bled correctly, all other gears engage fine. Classic Grad 98 said:

If I try and shift really fast with force behind it, I get the same feeling of shifting against something solid along with some crunching.Marf said:

Have to say, baulky shifting in one gear and grinding if you rush it are classic syncro symptoms. If that's the case your in for a 'box change/rebuild. Symptoms may be more noticeable since you changed the oil (different grade?) or possibly because you're able to change quicker with your shiny, new, correctly adjusted clutch.
...You do make a good point. I'm hoping it'll be a loose linkage, but I'm gearing(forgive the pun) up for it being a problem inside the box rather than outside the box. We'll see. WRT to oil grades, I bought what is recomended by Toyota, but I can't be sure what was in there before.
The ends of the cables at the gearbox have a rubber bush with a metal inner part which actually locates on the linkage. With age the inner bush can seize and the rubber degrades giving an appalling change - check this before anything else. It's possible to replace these with solid bushes that give a notable improvement in precision, at the expense of a little more vibration though the gearlever.
