I am now at the stage where i no longer know where to go.

One final explanation of my problems to see if anyone can help. If not then is off to the mechanics.

Problems/symptoms

slightly sticky throttle

Engine reving on its own when backing off the throttle, up to 3000 rpm now

Flat spot/low power in 2nd gear circa 4000 rpm with a trail of white smoke (not very thick but noticable)

Flat spot/low power in 3rd gear circa 3 - 4000 rpm still white smoke but a hell of a lot less

What i have done/checked to try and rectify these problems

Replaced

Fuel pump
Fuel filter
oil
oil filter
spark plugs

Cleaned

air filter
throttle body
injectors
Throttle position sensor connection

Also tested with an ohmeter, injectors power
Volts TPS power

Based on this information i really hope someone can help me as im struggling to fund this car as it is.

Any ideas????

Cheers Dave

Have you tested to see if it's running an electric throttle pedal position sensor? With a potentiometer (throttle body) many makes and models use the throttle position sensor instead of a cable. Worth sticking your head under the dash to find out although from experience, it would normally trigger the EML.

I've changed a few in my time because of faulty sensors. Hope that helps.

Is it using any water or any oil? One possibility might be that an injector is sticking open somehow, but I am not sure precisely what injection system these engines use.

Zad, it's the 2.0litre Zetec engine with the common rail type injector rail system. Not well known for failure but injectors would normal cause a mis fire when failing wouldn't they?
