guys, my dad has a broken 2002 volvo v40 1.9 td, the one with common rail fuel injection.
I have had a look at it but i am no diesel expert.

The diesel pump has 3 pipes, one feed from the tank, one that feeds the rail, and another vacumm pipe.

If i pull of the feed pipe and crank the car there is no diesel coming out of the pipe? does this car have an electric lift pump that feeds the main pump?
I put my finger over the feed in pipe on the pump and it doesnt suck, should it?

There is a hand pump on the feed pipe and if i pump it diesel comes up the pipe.

The car wont start at all, its not even trying, but if i pump the primer it starts chugging, but wont start.

If i crack of an injector feed pipe, i get a dribble of diesel, i should be expecting a lot of spray if its at the correct preassure.

I think i have this right

So i am guessing the diesel pump is broken, its not sucking up the diesel and supplying the rail.

can anyone help??

cheers

steve

Dont go cracking the injector feeds off!!! Thats potentially deadly pressures there (though currently not)

Sounds like your lift pump is foobarred

Hi did you manage to resolve this as mine is doing the same? I have taken off the pipe from the fuel tank to the prime bulb turned it over and nothing is coming through? Should there be? If I pump the bulb when all connected up it get hard and full of fuel but engine still won't start, although it has a v tiny attempt? I took the pump out of the tank but there is no pump? So does it work on pressure? If so how do I test this?

Thanks
