Possible `cat` faliure?

Went to use my Sorento today and guess what,I couldn`t. Damn thing will start and tickover but hit the go pedal and it revs then cuts out. Also the engine check light is on.Doesn`t seem to be any extra smoke than the normal fumes from a diesel either. Was fine last night aswell. HELP PLEASE!

Well it's almost impossible to diagnose over the net with such little info.

But you can be 100% sure it is nothing to do with the cat.

Without a shadow of a doubt it won't be the cat. Diesel's don't have them.

Modern diesel's have a DPF, but what your describing doesn't sound like DPF failure.

Seconded I ran a Fiat Scudo deisel van as a works van ,on way to a job, power dropped off managed to get to destination but the bloody thing would only run at tickover speed for a while and then stop. Inspection reveiled that the particulate filter had collapsed [ ok it aint a cat a such] cutting it out and replacing with a short flexi pipe gave a better running van which also was still MOT able . A freind had similar with a FIAT Ducato and the agents took 14 days , cylhead re build and a new turbo and then a complete ex system before they cured it, he does not use them any more HTH

Cat as in catalytic converter. A DPF is not a catalytic converter.

Wether it's a cat or a partc filter if it collapses it will give the same issues I.E.the f---e- will not run

And it certainly isnt going to do that instantly overnight.

I have had several cats collapse and never has it prevented the car from starting!

Sorry about the late reply. Reaaly weird one this, went to it after a couple of days away at work and the little fekker started first time ran ok and no engine management light. Poxy bleedin cars!
