I want to put a new rad on my TR7 the current one looks like this:

It has a single hose going to the header tank, rather than an in/out setup. So has 3 hoses attached to the rad itself.

I want to replace it with a rad like this:

Which is a Land Rover Discovery rad. I'm told they are pretty much the same shape and size, so an easy fit physically. It also has a small oil cooler built into the rad.

However it only uses two hoses. What should I be wary off if I wanted to change the header tank also to cater for this type of setup, or is it more a case of just adding a 'T' section to the bottom hose and hooking up the existing header tank that way?

Thanks for you help smile

I *think* that pic is the rad upside down and the header tank take off is the small pipe just visible under the lower oil cooler union.

Looks the same hose diameter as MGB/Midget which will easily adapt to your car.

The 3rd small diameter fill hose, will generally go anywhere just before the waterpump which in effect keeps the system topped up.

If the first image is correct, it does it in a roundabout way, so I assume the header tank must be sited higher than the radiator itself.

Why not get your own rad recored?

The Disco rad pic is upside down - as has already been said - and the small pipe in the bottom left of your pic is for the expansion tank hose (when the rad's the right way uphehe)

Yep, the header tank is up on the wing and is the highest point, well higher than the top of the rad.

Ta.

Missed that on the pic.

Cost mostly, I've actually already got a Disco rad, it's an ally one and was going to go on my Series III, but it's not quite ready yet. They only cost £86 so quite happy to get another one.

Not sure who recores rads these days, the few people I used to use don't do it anymore. Ones shut down and other stopped because it wasn't cost affective, they only sell replacements now.

That said, a new TR8 rad is £220, so quite a bit more than the £86 for the Disco one.
