Any body know if you can bypass the immoboliser on a 1.6 v reg renault scenic my daughters car has an intermittent fault one minute it will st has come on just want to by pass it art turn it of itappears that the imobliser

Had a few of these little gems and it's the black domed receiver where the middle mirror goes. You can bypass the immobiliser to the fuel pump at the fuse board and leave the central locking on the button. Any worthy auto electrician can do it and it's a simple fix. Don't try it yourself unless you know what you're doing cos you'll ruin the fuse board. Or you can have the new sensor coded to the ECU which will cost at least £200. If you're in the Surrey area I can recommend the guy that's done the last 10+ for me.

As a footnote, check that the boot / tailgate is securely shut. They often have dodgy catches which play up. If it isn't then the C/L will trigger the immobiliser and allow it to start for a few seconds then cut out. If it's not firing up then it's not an immobiliser fault as regularly diagnosed.

Symptoms.... if it starts then dies after turning over then it IS the fuel pump being cut by the immob. Although by checking all the doors, then locking the car and then un-locking it can sometimes rectify the problem. But if it does it again you most likely have a faulty sensor.

If it isn't starting at crank, then it's an electrical fault not the immobiliser. (check the crank sensor at the gearbox. It's half moon shaped and will cut the spark when faulty) I've owned a load of these cars / MPV's and they are all known for failing on the immobiliser but too many rush in rather than checking. Try it and see. You might get lucky?!
