Volvo D5 clutch issue

I have a 2.4 D5 diesel Volvo that has only done 26000 odd miles and the 3 year warranty expired just over 2 weeks ago. Car has a full main dealer service history. The car went into the dealership for the 3 year service and an MOT in early November and whilst there a recall issue needed to be dealt with. As I understand it this is a replacement of the clutch master cylinder and is apparently a 5 hour job that requires the removal of the steering column.
Anyway on the day this was done the garage were pushed to finish the job and we had to wait around until nearly 6 o'clock in the evening before getting the car back - so late that most staff had gone home, the service book didn't get stamped and didn't get the car valet either.
Fast forward to the last week or so and I've been getting an 'Engine System Service' warning message coming up. Not too worried as this was happening previous to the service and is to do with the engine becoming overfilled with oil by some other fluid leaking into it (a known fault). However what is worrying is I am getting the smell of burning clutch but only upon start up which soon clears - no other clutch symptoms the bite still feels good, no judder etc.
To me it seems to be too much of a coincidence that they replace the clutch cylinder less than 3 weeks before I start to notice this 'problem'. The car is booked in to investigate the warning message and I also mentioned the burning clutch smell which they've said they will also look into. I am not great mechanically and I'd like the thoughts of the PH masses on what they think might be the problem.
I'm also worried that they (a main Volvo dealer) might try to charge me for any rectification works if there is a clutch issue. To me this doesn't seem right when the car is v low mileage, has just had a recall for clutch issues and is but a fortnight out of warranty.
Over to you guys...and thanks in advance.

please keep it untill it is rectified !!, the other thing is if something is leaking in to the oil like diesel it is serious!! one it is diluting the oil which will dammage the engine and if you have a dpf there is a very good chance that will have problems due to it getting contaminated, the other thing is if the oil level gets above a certain amount there is a chance of runaway with the engine running on its oil so its a safety issue....

Update - car went into the main dealers today. The 'engine system service required' message was apparently down to a fuel quality warning. Puzzling as I always get my fuel from the same place. Anyway they say it is not uncommon for this to happen.
With regards to the clutch they say they cannot smell anything and that they have checked it and there is nothing wrong with it. They asked me to come and collect the car and I've told them there is definitley a smell coming from the car (even the wife has noticed it). Maybe I'm wrong and it isn't clutch (but it sure smells like it to me). Anyway I've told them there is no way I am collecting the car only to return the following day with the same issue and to check again. They tell me the clutch is not adjustable on a V50 and so the clutch master cylinder change they did should not affect anything.
I'm sure I'm going to get the call tomoorow that there's no problem when there is something not right. Can anyone guide me here please?

Well, if you insist there is a problem they cannot find. You're going to have to point it out to them or show them.
Looking at it from both sides. You can get customers who are hypochondriacs with cars.
And on the other side, many car dealers wouldnt have the first notion about repairing a car and will try anything to fob owners off.
So the only thing to do, is have the owner show them the problem. If you cannot do that, then how are they supposed to find it ?

On modern diesels, it's common for the diesel to get into the oil inbetween services. This is due to an injection of fuel after the main injection to help with regenerating the DPF filter. Some of this ends up blowing past the piston rings and ending up in the sump.
When does the smell come from the clutch? With heavy use of it during town driving or on motorway/main road driving, when it's engaged constantly?

Weirdly the smell is noticed on start up from cold. I reverse maybe 25 feet off my drive and as engage first geat that when the smell is noticed. Not even time for the clutch to get warm (maybe?) Also noticed the smell as we left the car on the dealers forecourt this was after maybe 15 miles from cold. This isn't an intermittent fault it is happening all the time now.
I have drivem perhaps 400,000 miles in various company cars and probably a bit more in my own and I have never had a clutch go on me. I feel fairly convinced it is a clutch smell but maybe it is something else. The smell is similar to hot brakes (I've been to a number of brake relining companies so know the smell) but slightly different.
Any other suggestions - I'm a bit too lardy thesedays to be climbing under the car.
Am aware of the fuel level thing - and raised it - they say this is not a problem on the D% engine as although there is a dpf of sorts it doesn't work in the same way.
