swirl pot and fuel pump configuration question

i run a trackday fiesta, however it suffers from fuel surge when the tank is less than half full although the tank has a standard basic swirl pot and uprated pump installed in it.
So i am thinking about installing a separate 2 litre external swirl pot, question is can i feed the swirl pot from the existing uprated high pressure in tank pump and then just install a new inline high pressure fuel pump to the fuel rail?

im thinking the swirl pot will have a open return line from the in tank pump back to the tank so shouldnt generate excess pressure however believe normally pratice is to use a low pressure high flow pump to feed swirl tank and a high pressure pump to fuel rail.
But rather than more work to take tank of, change pump etc can you forse a problem?

Pressure is created by a restriction. If you dont have one, then there wont be any.
So all this high pressure pump, low pressure pump in this instance is irrelevant.

And as you describe is pretty much the normal way to install.
