Please help me. I have a fiesta 1.25 zetec suffering from juddering /misfire problems when accelerating ,it happens in all gears .I broke down in heavy rain new years day when the car started juddering over 50mph and felt like a loss of power, aa came out as i could not restart the car. They fitted a new coil pack and car worked fine for 40 miles till the juddering come back, but was even worse.
I put the car in to a local garage and they stuck it on a machine to find out if any error code was showing, it come up maf sensor so they fitted a new one the cleaned the computer again. The juddering has come back but now mainly 2nd/3rd when building up speed. The car starts fine which it did not before maf sensor fitted unless i gave it some gas for about a min else it would cut out. I spent £180 on it so far , and totally lost where to go next. Car has had new air filter, oil changed, oil filter,Ht leads and spark plugs in last 2 months. I am wondering if aa fitted a faulty coil pack or fuel related problem? Please help

If the light is on, get it read again to find the issue. You have done the usual issues, which is coilpack, leads and plugs.

I've had this a lot over the years on the 1.6 version of this engine, happens a lot on mk 1 focuses. Usually turned out to be related to lambda sensors.

You've got a fault light on so get it scanned before changing parts. Have a look on Eurocar parts to see how much a lambda sensor is, then add about £40 for labour. Unless its seized in, and then it starts getting tricky.

Be wary of non oem sensors etc. My daughters polo came with one. Lasted a year. We fitted a VW one and now is fine.If you are keeping, then OEM Ford, flogging non oem to get it running.

Wheres Dave Puma when you need him with his crystal balls, i bet he knows exactly what the problem is from that diagnosis. New engine required, i reckon...

It broke down in heavy rain. The OP doesn't specify whether the new parts he mentions were fitted before this or after to try and cure it but as he says "in the last two months" we presume before.

Diagnosis - poor quality non-OE HT leads were fitted and are already breaking down in the wet. Any time any car I've ever known breaks down specifically in the wet it's either HT leads or dizzy cap on older models.

It would certainly be a damn sight cheaper sticking another set of leads on to see what happens rather than letting a garage charge a fortune.

Rule 2 in my "diagnosing engine problems" article.

Why would fitting a new fuel filter cure a misfire on just one cylinder?

Have never understood how Neurofen is supposed to just to the point of pain. Probably uses the same system.

Hmmm. It would have been somewhat more helpful to have known from the start that the new plugs and leads were fitted after the problem manifested than being led to think they were fitted before.

There's nothing like enough info given to properly diagnose this in that case. The fact it broke down in the rain seems to be a red herring if it's doing it in the dry as well. You say it judders when accelerating in 2nd and 3rd. Will it go through that point and run cleanly at higher speeds or in other gears or is the top speed severely limited?

Anyway even a semi-competent garage ought to be able to check whether it's spark or fuel that's the problem and then home in from there. Do a compression test too obviously just to eliminate mechanical possibilites.

Once in 4 th and 5 th doing over 35mph up to 80mph theres no juddering. its only when building up to that speed it plays around. Since back from the garage i have felt no juddering and warning light no longer on
