hi all,i want to flush out a toyota g/box without stripping it to see if there are any telltale fragments of its previous life in it or such,what's best i'm thinking thin transmission fluid or anything else to consider?smile

To just clean it all out of oil I have used just plain diesel... smile

Is it manual or auto? Auto boxes are a different bag and will go badly run if you put a corrosive material anywhere near it. If it is an auto, run the car up in neutral then select different gears while stationary and then drop the fluid out from the sump plug in the box. A re-con will cost more than you'd want to spend.
