What's the best stuff to use?

I've herd vinegar, coke, oven cleaner, petrol all sorts

I got 8 pistons to clean bits of old carbon off before there put in the block,

So what is the best stuff to soak them in to loosen all the crap/crud off

Thanks

I've just cleaned the carb from my VW camper using an ultrasonic cleaner and some specialist cleaning addative.

The results were very impressive and when the engine comes apart more bits including the pistons will get the same treatment.

Luickily I work in an office next to a chemistry lab and can just wander in to use the cleaner. I'm trying to figure out how to order a bigger unit as the current one is only 1.8l.

Cellulose thinners Alex, gunwash works just fine (its the cheapest) leave in soak/submerged for 24 hrs and you will find the ring groove cleans out like butter too.
