After what i suspect were throttle position sensor issues, i bought a second hand throttle body to fit to my car to see if it sorts the problem. I have finally got round to doing the job today but the new throttle body i have has an extra part that is missing from the one i took off, but i am not sure what it is or if i need it confused

Here are the pictures of the part, it looks to be vacuum operated, maybe an auto choke thing? I cannot see any spare pipes in the area that look like they should be connected to it.

Could it be related to cruise control?
Some cars use vac actuators to open and close the throttles.

Yup, deffinately the cruise actuator. If you notice the attachment slide rod to the actual throttle spindle has a long groove in it. This allows the throttle to open and leave the actuator behind, either when the cruise is not being used, or when you want to suddenly accelerate beyond the current set point. The cars ECU will use a solenoid valve to route a vaccuum signal to the rubber diaphram actuator, which contracts and pulls the throttle spindle open.
