Anyone ever used these kits that are available online? Where you take a 100ml oil sample when doing an oil change and send the sample off for analysis, telling you how healthy your engine is? Abnormal wear, levels of carbon, steel, lead, etc, etc.

Worth the hassle or a useless gimmick?

People who engineer engines use these as part of their job.

The issue is being able to interpret the results and take appropriate action.

Yes I use them at work from time to time. Think the company we use is in north Wales they give a quick Ish turn around.

The tests tell you what's in the oil ie metal etc but doesn't tell you what oil it is or anything like that so it depends what info your looking for if it's any good.

Use them all the time in the marine industry.
They can tell you if you have abnormal or normal wear by the type and amount of metal in the oil.
