Motorcycle not sparking

Hi all, My little motorbike has decided to stop altogether now, over the last couple of days it whilst riding would run fine then missfire a couple of times and pick up again then it would die occasionally on idle and then when hot would not start atall on the electric starter, and only just start with a bump. Is this the symptoms of a dieing CDI unit or could it be the pulse generator and cdi feed coil perhaps? the bike is a single cylinder 50cc 4 stroke road bike, but very similar to a pit bike engine and most parts fit it.

pour a can of petrol over it, then retest.

Oh that isn't such a bad idea but it's my only mode of transport at the moment!

replace the coil pack and retry.

It dosen't have a coil pack as such. It has a pulse generator and a coil that generates power to feed the cdi this is then connected to the cdi unit which then fires and feeds to a little ignition coil.

Get a workshop manual so you can check the specs of the various modules i.e voltages, resistances etc, otherwise you will just be throwing money at it left right and centre.
