Hi all,

A catastrophic failure of the pressure plate has seen me being towed home today, now I need to change the clutch.

What is it like on a Mondeo V6 (2000)? The AA man wasn't optimistic! It won't be my first clutch but I like to know what I'm heading into.

Also, what are the cheap clutches available on eBay like? I've only done limited research so far but I need to keep this cheap as the car itself isn't worth much!

Thanks in advance!

I'd imagine it will be a pretty horrific job. Suspension cradle and everything dropped out. Certainly not something you'd want to do without a ramp.

They are pretty horrific to do. Captive nuts that the subframe bolts to usually sheer and spin too.

I used to have an ST200, and I work for an automotive company who actually specialise difficult tasks, like building cars, engine conversions etc.

I would have sent it to an indy if it had gone while I had it! Nice car though.

Strangely, someone on the Yorkshire forum is trying to do a Mondeo clutch change too. I would try the forum at www.talkford.com (was fordmondeo.org). I gather there are tricks that can be done which get around some of the access problems.

Know of a pistonheader who tried and failed. Gave it to Mr Clutch , who did it, but was a massive job.

That is probably me, I posted in there to try to find a place to do it.

I'll have a good look around talkford, thanks.

A couple of years ago there was an item in Car Mechanics magazine about a place where you could rent repair space over in Manchester, with full access to tools and advice. I think this is it http://www.hotfrog.co.uk/Companies/DIY-Garage-net

But their web site says opening Autumn 2012, so I dunno! http://www.diy-garage.net

Thanks, that looks like a pretty good place and I found a few like that, none within driving distance though! The closest one is Halifax, roughly 25 miles away... I can't see myself driving there with no clutch...
