Does anyone know of any good DVDs about engines?

I'm interested in old engine designs and the stories behind their inception. Like the Merlin R Type, Deltic etc

Also interested in historical motorsport engines. Early Bentley blowers, 70s/80s F1 motors, Group B rally motors etc. Just interested in the design and development really.

They sometimes get a token mention in general DVDs but nothing dedicated or specific.

Thanks!

There's quite a good old Equinox on 80's F1 Turbo engine development here -

Think it's about an hour in total.

Excellent, thank you!

I should have added that DVDs are preferable due to my Broadband being too slow for Youtube!

Sorry, I cannot help with the DVD side of things, but would urge you to investigate some of the publications here : http://www.rolls-royce.com/about/heritage/publicat...
Especially The Merlin in Perspective - HS2.

I suggest you install the Firefox browser then add a video downloader like Flash Video Downloader for Youtube then watch the videos in VLC Player.

Thanks for posting the link, I really enjoyed watching that.smile

Did you upload them onto Youtube? If so 3 and 4 both have faults at the end which was a shame...

No not me, I posted a link to the download at f1-archives earlier in the thread though if that helps.

Why can't there be cool stuff like that on TV now? Everything has to be dumbed down and have Richard Hammond stood infront of it frown

Yes I saw it, thanks for that too, i'll watch the bits missing from the other on there later.

I don't mind the current dumbed down stuff, well it's better than nothing and Hammond et al are enthusiastic enough, but not a shade on a good fly-on-the-wall documentary such as that.
I guess that (sadly) there isn't a large enough audience for it as it's a very niche market. A shame for us that love that kind of thing though, also I wonder over the secrecy of F1 teams these days, would they allow that kind of thing? It was a long time before any F1 turbo era pics were published and even then they probably did it because that era was over and wouldn't be of any use to other teams.
I watched with interest in the clips you pointed out the rival team members making no secret of the fact they were having a good old nosy at what was going on, I wonder what goes on these days....

On a similar vein are you watching thingy on Sunday eve? Time for another thread maybe....
